West Potomac Updates No. 34

Wolverine Community,

Happy Friday!  With a holiday weekend ahead, it seems perfectly timed as I wish all Wolverines some rest after a full week of SOL testing.  Next week also brings conclusion of Senior SHOUT exams, with those participating in SHOUT beginning projects on Thursday June 1.  We have over 300 seniors with approved service learning projects who will spend hours making a difference in our community.  The Class of 2017 will no doubt make another great impact on the surrounding area.

While there are many events going on each day from SOL testing, to SHOUT finals, it is important that we remind everyone to provide your child’s sub school a note to properly check out if they are being picked up.  We thank you for following policies and procedures related to attendance each and every day.

This week showed many more examples of Wolverine Pride.  Congratulations to our senior band students who performed a wonderful Spring Concert yesterday evening.  For those that might not have heard, after a successful run of performances, the cast and crew of Billy Elliot was nominated for 12 National Capital Area Cappies!  Regional Playoffs continue this weekend with Softball (hosting 2nd round tonight at 630pm), Tennis and Track.  Recently at the district level five Wolverines qualified for the Virginia State Track meet!    Go Wolverines!!

Wishing you and your family a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.

Dale Rumberger

Interim Principal

ANGC News

Hey West Potomac! What’s ANGC?

Seniors: ANGC stands for All Night Graduation Celebration, THE place to be graduation night! Buy your tickets and come out to Belle Haven Country Club to party all night!  Dance, hit the casino, ride a mechanical bull, throw on a sumo costume to wrestle your best friend or worst enemy, or just kick back, eat some ice cream, and collect a door prize or two if you’re lucky! The event lasts until 2 am, so you can ignore those 11 pm and midnight curfews your parents keep trying to enforce!

Parents: The All-Night Graduation Celebration (ANGC), created for West Potomac High School seniors, is a tradition in our community.  This event provides a safe, fun, supervised night, free of alcohol and drugs, for all of our seniors following their graduation ceremony. The all Night Grad party will take place June 21, 2017, from 10 pm till 2 am at Belle Haven Country Club, in our own community, right down the road from the school. The Fairfax County Public School system does not provide any funding or resources for this event, so we must rely upon your support to make their graduation celebration a safe and memorable occasion.

There are several ways you can help.

First, if you have a senior, buy them a ticket! Encourage them and their friends to attend ANGC, where they can have fun and celebrate safely with their friends on what can be one of the most dangerous evenings of the year. The web site address is http://www.angcwestpotomac.com/.  Tickets will also be available for sale during lunch in the cafeteria through May 31, and again at Baccalaureate and Convocation.  Prices are $55 until June 12, when they will increase to $65. Seniors must submit a contract (on the website) signed by both student and parent for the ticket sale to be official. Note* This event is for ALL our seniors!  If you cannot afford a ticket, see your counselor and one may be provided for you.

Second, anyone can make a tax-deductible donation.  We will be providing food, a casino, games, a DJ, photos, prizes, gift cards and more for the event!  You can go to the All Night Graduation Celebration web site and make a contribution, or drop off contributions to the PTSA mailbox in the office, prominently labeled ANGC.  The web site address is http://www.angcwestpotomac.com/.

Third, you can volunteer!  We are going to need people to help out the night of the party.  We will post a link for volunteer requests shortly, so keep an eye out for that announcement! Volunteers are NOT restricted to senior parents!  For parents of younger students, this is your opportunity to get an insider’s view on how ANGC is run, so that you’ll be prepared to make your child’s celebration a success!

Fourth, The All Night Graduation Celebration Planning Committee also needs more volunteers!  Please join us at our next meeting, Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 7 PM in the College and Career Center.  This is an important meeting with many details to be addressed as we wrap up preparations. ALL parents are welcome! Parents of underclassmen, please come help senior parents and gain valuable knowledge for next year!

As a final but important note, we are raising funds for ANGC through sales of reserved seats at graduation! Reserved seats may be purchased for $50 per seat on our website or through our representatives during in person ticket sales. This is an especially convenient way to care for older guests who may be unable to wait in lines or deal with crowds when the doors open.  These reservations are limited, first come first serve.

Please contact us if you have any questions or want to help!
