Drop Off Times

Parents are asked not to drop off students prior to 7:00 AM.  With the shift to later school start times, our school security personnel are not on duty until that time.  Therefore in the interest of student safety, we ask for you cooperation in matter.

Change in Attendance Messages

During AP, IB and SOL testing at high schools from Monday, May 1, 2017 through Friday, June 9, 2017 the morning attendance telephone calls, texts and e-mails to home for reporting a student’s absence will not occur. This temporary suspension reflects the fact that students are often in designated testing sites within the school during the normal attendance-taking time. The evening attendance telephone calls and e-mails will still remain in place.

Lockers Next Year

Due to our large rising freshman class for next year, we are implementing a slight change in how we assign lockers. Rising freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will automatically be assigned lockers for next year. Rising seniors (current juniors) who wish to have a locker for their senior year need to fill out this google form. It will require you to be logged into your schoogle account!

Library Closed During Testing

The library will be closed periodically throughout AP testing the next two weeks.  Please check the schedule on twitter for the complete list of when the library is open/closed.

If you have library books you would like to renew or return OR fines to pay, please visit the library during the OPEN times or visit our "LIBRARY ON A CART" located outside the library (near Door 2) during Cougar Times when the library is closed.

Performing Arts Department Presents Les Miserables

CAN YOU HEAR THE PEOPLE SING? This Thursday, May 11- May 13th at 7:00pm, Oakton High School Performing Arts Department presents Les Miserables. Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, 'Les Miserables' travels with prisoner-on-parole, 24601, Jean Valjean, as he runs from the ruthless Inspector Javert on a journey beyond the barricades, at the center of the June Rebellion. With a cast, crew and PIT of nearly 90 students you will surely know someone involved with the production. Starring Parker Waters, Diego Maldonado, Jack Lankenau, Lindsey Jacobson, Lydia Talamante, Liam Klopfenstein, Isabella Morello, Joe Walker, Carolyn Best and many more. Tickets will be on pre-sale for $12 during lunches Monday - Thursday and are $15 at the door. THERE’S A NEW WORLD TO BE WON.

Leaving FCPS this June? Please back up your files to take with you.

Over the last few years you have used your FCPS Google Drive accounts and the school's computers to store/share projects, papers, and presentations. If you are leaving FCPS this June, your Google Drive accounts will be turned off as soon as you graduate/move and your school files will be deleted by the Fall! Here are some ways to back up your files and take them with you.

Bicycle Laws and Safety Tips

The laws regulating bicycling on Virginia's public highways define the rights and duties of bicyclists as well as the motorists with whom they share the roadway. Bicyclists and motorists basically have the same rights and duties, and the laws governing traffic regulation apply equally to both. This summary is intended to help bicyclists understand the laws that apply to the operation of bicycles in Virginia.

Oakton HS Spring Physicals

To participate in sports next school year, your child must have a physical on file dated on or after May 1, 2017, on the new form (Revised April 2016). This includes working out in the weight room, conditioning, “green days” and try outs.
The Oakton High School Athletic Training Program is offering an opportunity for students to receive a sports health screening and pre-participation physical (PPE) on Monday May 15, 2017 from 5:30-8 pm. Our team physicians, as well as a staff of nurses, physical therapists and certified athletic trainers will be on hand to provide a thorough screening. If during the screening or physical, the physicians find something that is questionable to them regarding your child’s health, they may request further evaluation by another physician. We are asking for a minimum donation of $50 in exchange for the PPE. Registration is now open to register for a PPE, go to: https://www.fcps.edu/node/33735 or go to www.oaktonathletics.org and follow the links for sports physicals. There is also a link for the new form there as well. Walk-ins are also welcome on that evening but we ask for a $60 donation at that time. This physical is good for the entire following school year.
This is the Athletic Training Program’s method of fund raising. All the funds for equipment and supplies are raised at this event. The county provides no funding for any of the supplies or equipment in the athletic training room that is used to take care of our athletes. Your support would be greatly appreciated. You too benefit from this process. Once your child’s VHSL physical form is completed that night, it stays on file at the school, as well as a digital copy is kept on our server, so if you need a copy just email one of the ATCs and we can sent you a copy.
PPE’s are being offered in the same format at every high school in FCPS and are fund raising efforts at those schools as well. If you can not attend the PPEs at Oakton H.S., there may be another local high school offering the opportunity on a date that may be more convenient for you. If you have any questions or concerns, contact Paul Rupp, MS, ATC at prupp@fcps.edu.
