4
SENIORS: Calendar note: June 4 is the Baccalaureate for
seniors and parents. This is held at Aldersgate Church.
Prom
2017: Looking for Chaperones and Helpers
This year's prom will be on Saturday, June
10, at the Gaylord National. We would love to get as many parents and faculty
members to chaperone or help out as possible and to share this amazing night

Math Boot Camp
Teachers
will be letting students know about Math Boot Camp over the next few
weeks. Space will be limited but every effort will be made to accommodate
students who are eager to come. Scheduled dates are below; interested students
should ask their teachers for more details and sign-up procedures.

WPHS Dance Workshop for Rising 9th
Graders (and older) • May 10
Are
you (or a student you know) interested in joining West Potomac's Dance Team
next year? Then plan to attend these open workshops for rising 9th graders and
older, taking place May 10, 3:30-5:00,
at WestPo Dance Studio in back of the Springbank building. Bring a filled-out
FCPS Emergency Care Form to be allowed to dance (no exceptions). Instruction in
pom, hip hop, and technique. You'll have a chance to ask questions about dance
team and about tryouts. This is not the workshop that will immediately precede
tryouts, and it is not mandatory to attend this one in order to try out, but it
is terrific practice. No dance experience necessary to attend. Tryouts for the
2017-2018 dance team will take place May 22-24. Download

ANG Car Show: A Model of Success
On behalf of the All Night Grad Committee for the Class of 2017,
thank you to all of the many people who made last Saturday's car show
fundraiser a huge success. Thank you to everyone for coming out to
support our event and our seniors. A very successful day and we appreciate your

WPHS Student Leadership Hosting
Food/Clothing Drive
Some of the
West Potomac Leadership students have started a permanent food and clothing
pantry at West Potomac for the benefit of the student body and their families.
They will be collecting food and clothing donations every Friday morning
for the rest of the year. There will be a box for donations in the front
office. Contact Nicole Borghard (nmborghard@fcps.edu) if you have any questions.
Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) Updates
Fruit and Brownies Needed for
Teacher Appreciation Luncheon May 10
We're
celebrating our amazing teachers next week and treating them to lunch on
Wednesday, May 10. We just need some sweet treats for their dessert – we're
thinking cookies and brownies as well as berries and cut-up fruit. You can drop
off the goodies in the front office by 10:30 am, labeled "teacher
appreciation luncheon." If you can't deliver items the morning of the
event, please email Sue Capper (mailto:zqbobski@aol.com) to arrange a drop-off at

Donations Needed for
Math Boot Camp
To help students prepare for upcoming math
testing, WPHS will hold Math Boot Camp on Saturday mornings. The PTSA is
looking for food donations for the breakfasts that are served at the sessions.
Donations can be dropped in the front office anytime this week or next marked
MATH BOOT CAMP (including refrigerated items). Please

Proctors for AP Exams
Volunteers
are needed to be AP exam proctors. This frees up teachers for more strategic
use of their time. Please sign up (but not for an exam your child is taking).
The exams run during the first two weeks in May. Click here to sign up (look under

Class of 2017 Senior
Convocation June 20, 9:00 to 11:00 am, Springbank Auditorium
Convocation
is our Senior Honors and Awards ceremony where seniors are recognized for their
academic accomplishments and scholarship awards. SENIORS: PLEASE turn in copies of scholarship awards
you will be using to attend college next fall to Mrs. Carter in the College and Career Center (Rm 332) by June 1. We
must have documentation of scholarship awards in order to include in awards

Senior
Survey Now in Progress
Mrs. Carter will meet with seniors during government classes
during the month of May to complete the required FCPS Senior Survey. The
purpose of the survey is to record both the post-secondary plans of all
graduates and the final status of the college applications. Survey information is also used to determine
where final transcript needs to be sent.
NVCC
Annandale Open House
The
NVCC Annandale Campus is hosting an Open House on Thursday, May, 11, 5:00-8:00 pm,
on the Annandale Campus in the Mark R. Warner Student Services Building (CA
Building). This event is an opportunity for prospective students and parents to
explore NOVA and the campus and to learn about the programs and resources
offered. The event will include a welcome from NVCC President Dr. Scott Ralls,
provide students and parents/guardians with a resource fair to obtain
information on several of the academic and student service departments, and
include break-out information sessions that students and parents/guardians can
attend to learn more details about specific campus services and resources. Free
parking is available in Student “B” lots beginning at 4:30 pm. There is no
registration for this event.

College Test Prep Opportunities
Now Live: Summer,
Fall (and Beyond) Test Prep Classes
SAT and ACT classes will start July
29 and target prep for the August 26 official SAT and September
9 official ACT test. Classes will be held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings.
Mock (Practice) Tests
WPHS, Gunston Building, Rooms
153/154. Check-in opens at 8:30am; see link above for mock test start
times. Cost is $23. Walk-in registration ($28) as space allows. Bring
registration, photo ID, pencils, calculator, snack/water. Note: WPHS student scholarships (need-based)
for mocks and classes are available through the WPHS College and Career Center
Specialist, Liz Carter (eecarter@fcps.edu). Online registration closes at midnight,
the Wednesday before the test.

Fundraising Information
St. Luke's Boot Sale Saturday, May 13, 8-12 pm
The British-style “Boot Sale” at St. Luke’s will raise money
for the UCM food pantry. A boot sale is a yard sale in which items are
sold from the trunk, or “boot,” of the car. Sellers can rent out a
parking space for $20 and buyers can take advantage of the great bargains being
offered. All proceeds from the parking space rentals will go to UCM. Click
