What's the buzz at HES...

This week, was Teacher Appreciation Week! All of the teachers want to say, “THANK YOU to the parents and students of Herndon Elementary for an amazing week.  We are incredibly fortunate to be teaching in this community.  We would also like to thank the HES PTA parent volunteers for the big breakfast and treats every day!”

You are invited to attend the Principal/Parent Coffee on May 8th at 9:30am in the HES library.  Mrs. Fennessy will discuss plans for the next school year and answer questions.  This is the last principal’s coffee for this school year so please plan on attending. We look forward to seeing you there!

Herndon Elementary SOL Schedule

The Virginia SOLs will be administered May 15-June 9.  These tests give us important information about the skills your student has mastered and where they might need more assistance from us as a school.  Parents, we ask you to support your student during this time by making sure they get a good night’s sleep the night before, a good breakfast the day of the test, and to avoid scheduling appointments.  Thank you so much!

Fidgets

We have many students bringing fidgets to school and they are becoming a distraction in the classroom.  We are asking parents to partner with us and not have students bring them to school.  We want to keep our focus on learning until the end of the school year and students to stay focused.  Thank you for supporting our students!

Netflix Series 13 Reasons Why

We want to make you aware about a popular mini-series on Netflix that you may or may not have heard about.  The series is called 13 Reasons Why, and focuses on the suicide of a teenaged girl.  The series is raising a lot of concern about the mental health and wellness of young people who might watch it.  We want our parents to be aware of this series because it is attracting the attention of many young people, and it may negatively impact some individuals.

There is not enough room to post all of the amazing things that are going on at Herndon ES.  You will see so much more on our fabulous Twitter and Facebook feeds which are also on the Herndon Elementary School website .
