From the Principal's desk 28Apr

A Message From Dr. Poole

The loss of Minjoo Lee has been tough on everyone in the W.T. Woodson community. I want to thank everyone that called, texted and emailed words of encouragement and support. Challenging times often reveal the true character of those involved, and the last 24 hours have reminded me that W.T. Woodson High School is full of students, staff, and parents that care a great deal about each other and the greater good of our school community. I came to W.T. Woodson as principal because I want to ensure that it is a place of hope, and Minjoo’s passing makes me even more determined to make this goal a reality for each and every student we serve.

Eco Club students celebrate Earth Week

Ecology Club Celebrates Earth Week

The Ecology Club celebrated Earth Week by beautifying the Woodson campus.  They also shared their enthusiasm for our eco-system by assisting students from Canterbury Wood Elementary School with experiments that demonstrated erosion and providing a virtual reality tour of earth.  They were featured on the FCPS Twitter page and on Apple TV.  You may access the video at the link below:

2017-18 Course Requests

On May 1, 2017 Counselors will be sending home a copy of the course requests your son/daughter have selected for next year.  We anticipate there will be errors or a change in desired courses.  Please have your son/daughter contact their counselor by May 31 to make any changes to next year’s requests.  While August 29 (first day of school) is a long way away, we need to have accurate numbers of students in classes in order to make the master schedule.  Also, the longer students wait to change a request the less of a chance that course will have space available.  The next opportunity to change a course request will be August 15 when counselors return from summer vacation.

Student Successes

Balmore Caceres is excelling in math this year.  Not only does he complete his work quickly and accurately, he routinely helps his peers by explaining the concepts in Spanish.

Wilson Tran is demonstrating his commitment to passing the SOL by attending every SOL review session that is offered and actively participating.

Justice Donerson is working diligently in Algebra 1. She frequently stays after school and comes in during returns to ensure she’s doing her best work.

Month Of The Military Child

Each year our nation designates April as the Month of the Military Child to recognize and thank children from military families for the sacrifices they make living the military lifestyle.  The recognition is part of the legacy of former Defense Secretary Casper Weinberger who established the commemoration in 1986.   During the month one day is selected as the day to “Purple Up! For Military Kids” and all are encouraged to wear purple in recognition of the strength and sacrifices of military connected youth (MCY).  Why purple?  Purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military, as it is the combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red, and Navy blue.  This year PURPLE UP day will be celebrated on April 21st.
