Girls Lacrosse: The Cavs celebrated senior night on Tuesday before their game against West Springfield honoring nine graduating seniors: Emma Vinall, Meredith Mackay, Claire Cooke, Sandy Elliott, Sarah Jensen, Elizabeth Salewski, Almina Kirdar, Grace Kim and Emma Cochran. Seniors led the scoring: Meredith Mackay had 5 goals, Emma Vinall had 3 goals/3 assists and Sandy Elliott had 2. While West Springfield was strong on the circle the Cavs still won over 70% of the draws led by Emma Vinall with 7. The first half ended 14-1. Senior goalie Grace Kim had 7 saves and in the second half Mariel Russ had 8. Additional scoring came from Logan Dougherty (2), Margaret Stephan (2), Cassia Kruse and Carlie Hartung. The game ended with a winning score of 16-6. The Cavs remain undefeated for the season, including two wins in Florida during spring break for a record of 9-0.

Baseball: The baseball team recorded 3 wins during their Spring Break trip to Richmond. They beat Mills Godwin 4 – 2, Oakton 8 – 7, and James River 8 – 6. Jack Donohue pitched 5 scoreless innings against Mills Godwin to get the win. Randy Prosperi threw 5 strong innings against Oakton but did not come away with the win after a late game charge by Oakton. Chris DUdley came in to pitch the 7th and 8th to record the win when Mitchell Clarke hit a game winning single in the bottom of the 8th. Hunter Hoopes pitched the Cavs to the win against James River pitching 5 strong innings. Brian Henessey pitched the last 2 innings to record the save. On offense, Clarke had 5 hits and 3 RBIs; Dudley recorded 5 hits and 2 RBIs; Garrett Laraia had 4 hits and 4 walks; Donohue, Joe Molnar, and Kyle Adie each recorded 3 hits.

Boys Soccer: This week, the Cavaliers hosted the South County Stallions in Boys Varsity soccer action. The Cavaliers had a cool start to the game. Half-time arrived with the teams even at 0 a piece. Woodson had put the pressure on South County on several occasions with Junior Daniel Kang making several strong drives to the goal line. However, it was Sophomore James Barata who found the net first. Senior Dylan Robey headed in the second of the night. Senior Ryan Dagley was as cool as you like as he put the ball in the corner for Woodson’s third. Ryan notched an assist as he passed to Senior Nate Rummel who drove to the goal and made it 4-0 to the Cavs. Finding the opportunity again, Nate capitalized and scored a brace on the evening. Goalies Eli Smolen and Connor Brennan were called into action on several occasions. Final score, 5-0.

Crew: More than 70 WTW rowers & coxswains competed at the Darrell Winslow regatta on Saturday, April 15. Five boats placed in the top 3 in their events, and 2 others advanced through heats and finished 4th in finals. Women’s Varsity 8+ finished 2nd, 3 seconds behind stalwart TC Williams. Women’s Lightweight 8+ “raced up” and finished 4 seconds behind TC Williams’ 2nd Varsity boat! Women’s Novice 8+ won their flight and posted the fastest time of all 10 Novice boats! Jocelyn Phipps, Rachel Mailand, Meng Li, Lauren Ollis, Abigail Pesansky, Nicole Curtis, Natalie Moran, Jules Heimbigner, and Evelyn Baltz (coxswain). Men’s Varsity 8+ won their heat, and finished 4th in the Final, 6 seconds out of 1st. Men’s 2nd Varsity 8+ finished 2nd in their heat and 4th in the Final, 1.5 seconds out of 3rd. Men’s Lightweight 4+ finished 3rd. Men’s Novice 8+ finished 2nd in their flight: Heston McClintick, Walter Kowalski, Joseph Bishop, William Mullet, Le Chen, Nicholas Ladino, Zachary Borja, Mason Phalan, and Krish Soni (coxswain).

Girls JV Softball: With strategic bats and aggressive base running, Woodson JV secured a 20-4 victory over Mt Vernon. Rosie Millett had her first appearance as pitcher with a strike and 2 put outs, and both lead pitchers Abbie Ritchie and Tiffany Kronlage supported her with aggressive fielding plays. The pitchers were also supported by a strong and assertive set of catchers, outfielders and first baseman Georgia Kokkinis, who shut down any chance for advancement on the bases.
