West Potomac Updates No. 29

Wolverine Community,

Many thanks to all those who worked hard in making yesterday’s Earth Day celebration and Wolverine Green Ribbon Cutting a great success.  It was a wonderful morning with many examples of Wolverine Pride.  Pictures of the event are available on the West Potomac High School twitter (@theWPboard).

Our first week back from Spring Break included lots of great instruction in the classroom.  With AP Testing just a week away we want to remind you that a testing calendar which includes AP, SOL, and Final Exam schedules is available on our website: https://westpotomachs.fcps.edu/announcements/end-year-testing-schedule

Our 3rd Quarter Student Recognition Events began this past Friday.  Thank you to the parents and families of our 45 Rising Stars who joined us for this celebration.  Next week we continue our student recognition events on Wednesday when recognize 347 students who had perfect attendance for the 3rd Quarter.   On Friday, we will celebrate our 3rd Quarter All “A” Honor Roll (192 students) and our A/B Honor Roll (596 students).  Thank you to our PTSA Academic Boosters and our Academic Booster Sponsor Burke & Herbert Bank for making these celebrations possible.

We hope to see you on campus this week at the many events such as a spring athletic contest, the highly anticipated opening of Billy Elliot, or our 2nd Annual Career Exploration Night!

Finally, please be aware that 3rd Quarter Report Cards will be arriving via mail by the end of the week. As always we encourage families to use ParentVue to stay up to date with your child’s academic progress.

Wishing you a great weekend.

Career Exploration Night, Wednesday, April 26, 6:30 pm

Support students on their road to career success! Participate in Career Exploration Night at West Potomac High School on Wednesday, April 26, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.

WPHS is planning the 2nd annual Career Exploration Night for the entire study body, endeavoring to provide students an enriching experience by talking to experts in various fields. Our goal is to create a unique community experience by bringing together students with professionals from local businesses, the WPHS parent pool, staff contacts, and area residents. Most students have a dream where they see themselves in 10 years, with a fulfilling and successful career. Help students achieve those dreams!

You are a professional, an expert in your career field, and we need YOU to discuss your career, education, and training with high school students. Whether you are a lawyer or a plumber, an engineer or a politician, we need you to discuss your career one-on-one with our students. All professions welcome!

Easiest Fundraisers Ever

Did you know that you can help the West Potomac PTSA earn money simply by shopping at your favorite grocery and online stores?  By taking a few minutes to register your accounts, the PTSA could earn hundreds of dollars to be used toward programs that benefit all of our kids. Here’s all the information you need:

  • Amazon Smile – Amazon donates 0.5% of the price of your eligible AmazonSmile purchases to the PTSA. Amazon Smile is the same as Amazon.  Same products, same prices, same service.  All you have to do it log into smile.amazon.com and designate West Potomac High PTSA as the group you would like to help and the school will start earning money.  Just remember to log into AmazonSmile when you shop, instead of Amazon.com.
  • Giant A+ - Just log onto www.Giant.com/aplus to designate West Potomac, ID #02263, using your Giant Card or call the A+ Hotline at 1-877-275-2758 for assistance. If you registered in the past, please verify that West Potomac is still your designated school.  Don’t forget to encourage your friends and family to register too.
  • Harris Teeter - The next time you shop at Harris Teeter, give the cashier the West Potomac PTSA Account number 3602 and your VIC card will start earning money for the school.  The PTSA will receive 5% of the purchase price of Harris Teeter brand prodcuts.

If you have any questions about these programs, please contact Monica Mulvihill at monijeff@cox.net.
