GBE Happenings 4.20.17

College Day

Friday, April 21, is College Day at GBE!  This event encourages our students to learn more about college choices and the importance of a college education. GBE teachers are invited to wear clothing from their alma mater, will post their “college bio sheet” outside classroom doors, and will speak with students about their college experiences.

ALL GBE students are invited to wear college gear (hats, sweatshirts, t-shirts) from their favorite college. Stay tuned to the GBE News to hear more about the college that some of our teachers attended.

Visitor Management System (VMS)

The new FCPS Visitor Management System (VMS) was recently installed in our main office at Greenbriar East ES.

Visitors entering an FCPS school must register at the VMS with a valid driver’s license, valid DMV identification card, military ID, or passport for registration and subsequent check-ins. This applies to all parents, visitors, and volunteers.

For the safety of your student(s) as well as the staff, you will not be permitted in the building unless you have valid identification, and have registered at the VMS station.

RRMS Bullying

Mr. Halligan’s Presentation:

As part of the effort to help students understand the negative impact of bullying, Rocky Run and Franklin MS have invited Mr. John Halligan to conduct a presentation for their students. He will relay his own tragic experience as a dad whose 13-year-old son took his own life in 2003, after incessant bullying by peers since the 5th grade, both in school and online. His story is riveting and powerful, and reminds students that there is a face, a person, a heart, on the other end of the computer screen.

Please visit his website at www.ryanpatrickhalligan.org for additional information. Rocky Run will also have an evening presentation for all parents/guardians of Chantilly Pyramid schools on Monday, April 24th from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.
