Michelle Taylor wins Outstanding Administrator Award

Dear Oakton High School Community,

I am thrilled to announce that Assistant Principal Michelle Taylor has been selected as the NOVA District PTA Outstanding Administrator of the Year for 2017!  Michelle’s vision and initiative to create The Pantry at Oakton and her active and heartfelt devotion to ALL students and their families are just some of the reasons why she was awarded this honor.  The NOVA District includes Alexandria City, Arlington County, Fairfax City, Fairfax County and Falls Church City PTA and PTSAs.

Please join me in congratulating Michelle for this wonderful recognition!

Sincerely,

Cathy Jaquette

OHS PTSA President

Input for Oakton HS Principal Selection Process

A critical component to the Principal Selection Process is your written input.  We invite you to offer your individual, written input (preferably via email) regarding the skills, experience, and leadership characteristics needed for Oakton High School.  You might also address any challenges or issues that a new principal will need to address.  Input is confidential.  Please e-mail your ideas to mrparker@fcps.edu or mail your suggestions to Michael Parker at FCPS, Department of Human Resources, 8115 Gatehouse Road, Falls Church, VA   22042-1203 by Friday, April 21st, 2017

Would You Like to Sit on Principal Selection Panel?

Dear OHS Parents and Guardians,

I have been asked by the office of Administrative Employment and Region I to obtain the names of community members interested in serving on the principal selection panel, which will be held Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the Gatehouse Administrative Center in Falls Church.  It is requested that any community member that submits their name as a candidate to serve on the panel confirm they are available for the entire day (7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.). The panel may not take the entire day, but in case it does, we want to be sure all are available for the entire process.

Community representatives should be those who are committed to the principal selection process and the future of Oakton High School. The panel members should represent the diversity of the school, the various ages/grade levels of children in the school, various programs/activities in which their children are involved, etc.

The PTSA Board will forward the names of six candidates to the Region Assistant Superintendent who will then select three to participate and one alternate for the panel.  If you are selected, you will be contacted by the Region.

If you would like to serve on the panel, please complete this form and return the hard copy to the OHS front office by 3 PMWednesday, April 19, 2017.  OR, you may e-mail the completed form to me at oaktonptsa@gmail.com by 3 PM, Wednesday, April 19, 2017.

Sincerely,

Cathy Jaquette

The Pantry is Collecting Food Items Again

Thank you to everyone who donated food and produce to The Pantry over the past few weeks.  Thanks to our volunteers, we were able to package boxes and backpacks for students to bring home for Spring Break.  In addition to non-perishable food and personal hygiene items, we were able to send home fresh produce and loaves of bread.  This program would not happen without the generosity of our community.  Since distributing for Spring Break, we have space once again to collect non-perishable items.
