School SOL Schedule
Herndon Elementary School SOLs will be administered May 15-June 9. Here is the link for a detailed schedule: http://www2.fcps.edu/HerndonES/docs/SOL%20Schedule%202017.pdf
Parents:
you can help your child tremendously by quieting the household early so they
may get a good night’s sleep, giving them a nutritious breakfast and sending
them to school on time. Please avoid
scheduling any appointments during these times. Thank you!
Herndon ES SCA officers and sixth grade SCA representatives,
along with the SCA sponsors, Mrs. Graham and Ms. Carpenter, visited the Herndon Adult Daycare Center. The students showed their collaboration skills by
working with the adults to make blankets to donate to a local homeless
shelter. The students also partnered with the adults to prepare their
courtyard and garden for spring planting. Our students hope to continue
this partnership as part of our Herndon Community outreach.

Herndon ES Garden Corner
Herndon Elementary has a little garden library!
We wanted to let you know about the little garden library
in the vegetable garden (near kindergarten, off of the breezeway). Some friends
from MOMS organic market made and donated it to our school and Amanda and I
have stocked it with all kinds of nature related books. We even have a few
titles in Spanish! This is not a traditional little library like the one in
front of the school with a "give one, take one" philosophy. We want
to keep these gardening, insect, vegetable, etc books for use in the garden.
Teachers may borrow them for classroom use and students may read them while out
in the garden.
Please contact Amanda Geary and Jill Vinson
at HESGarden@gmail.com
with any questions or if you would like to volunteer. Come help our
garden program "grow"!
Follow the progress on
their blog https://hesgarden.wordpress.com/ and on
twitter @HESGardenGrow.
