Fifth graders express themselves through poetry at the 5th Grade Poetry Cafe.
On Wednesday, March 29th, the fifth grade students
hosted a poetry café for their parents. Parents enjoyed light refreshments as
students read the poetry they have been working on for the past few weeks.
Fifth graders learned about Haiku's, limericks, and ballads. They also explored
writing free verse poems about what they imagine, wonder, and observe in their
world. It was a wonderful celebration of their success!

This week we had a school wide focus on the book Only One You by Linda Kranz.
The words of wisdom in the
book reinforce our Positve Behavior-CARE program. This book celebrates
diversity and individuality as well as positive actions. Classes read and discuss the words of wisdom
from the book and created class murals.
These are the words of wisdom
from the book:
Always
be on the lookout for a new friend.
Look
for beauty wherever you are and keep the memory of it with you.
Blend
in when you need to. Stand out when you have the chance.
Find
your own way. You don’t have to follow
the crowd.
Know
when to speak; know when to listen.
No
matter how you look at it there is so much to discover.
If
you make a wrong turn, circle back.
If
something gets in your way, move around it.
Set
aside some quiet time to relax and reflect every day.
Appreciate
art. It’s all around you.
Make wishes on the stars in the
nighttime sky.
There’s only one you in this great big world, make it a better place.
The SCA will use the money
raised by the Candy Gram sale to pay for an artist to paint a mural on a wall
in the school during the month of April.
She will use the fish in the class murals as her inspiration.

load a cannon on the battlefield at the Tredegar Iron Works. They were then challenged to complete all the steps in 30 seconds or less.
