VMEA Choral Assessments

Last weekend our choral students participated in the Virginia Music Educators Association's annual assessments.  The event was hosted at Woodson with 38 choirs from 8 different high schools participated in our district. Under the direction of Michael Ehrlich and Amy Moir, five of our choirs received Superior ratings and the sixth received an Excellent rating.  We are very proud of our choral students and their instructors.

SOL Testing Information

Students enrolled in courses where there is an end-of-course test will be taking the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Tests online from May 22 - June 5. It will be very helpful if you can avoid appointments which may take your child out of school during this time period.  The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) requires all students across the state to take the SOL Tests if they are enrolled in courses where there is an end-of-course test.

FCPS Test For Lead In Drinking Water

As a precautionary measure, FCPS has begun testing for lead in water across the district.  Our school was recently tested and I’m pleased to report that our test results came back well within the safe limits set by the EPA and no additional testing is planned.

Woodson's Cavalcade
West Point Leadership Conference

West Point Leadership and Ethics Conference:  Accompanied by our DSA, Dan Checkosky, four of our Leadership students represented Woodson at this very prestigious conference this morning.  Olivia and Charisma received awards from their individual groups and much was learned by all about leadership and ethics.  Great job!

Presentation on ADHD/Executive FunctioningWe listened!  Based on your responses from the Special Education survey, ADHD/Executive Functioning were major areas of interest.  Because of this, we invited two speakers, Catherine Adams, President of the ADHD Resource Group of Northern Virginia, and Patricia Hudak, Co-Chair of CHADD of Northern Virginia, to present at WOODSON.

Please join us the 29th of March at 7-8:30 pm in the Choral Room, E146.  They will be discussing how development in the teen with ADHD or ADD, with Executive Function deficits, differs and how parents and educators can support these teens to create resiliency, self-advocacy, and improved learning skills.

Virginia State Poetry Out Loud Competition:  Once again this year, Charisma  finished strong, second runner up, in this year’s competition.  Special thanks to Beth Koby for setting Charisma on this path and for being one of her biggest supporters.

FCPS' 12th annual Special Education Conference will be held on Saturday, April 1, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Hayfield SS. Attendees can hear from keynote speaker Dr. Nancy Mather and many other guest speakers. There will also be a variety of breakout sessions and exhibitors. Pre-service teachers are encouraged to attend. FCPS employees will receive five re-certification points for attending the conference. Visit the Special Education Conference webpage

Andrea Hooberman-Pineiro always has a pleasant presence in Physics and is always willing to help neighbors understand new topics.

Nicole Cummings is one of the few students who consistently asks questions when she doesn’t understand something from class.  Her hard-work and dedication in Physics is admirable.
