 HES GEMS at Maker Faire
Girls Excelling in Math or Science (GEMS) is a Saturday
morning club sponsored by 4 female teachers at Herndon Elementary School. GEMS is now nationwide but was founded in
Fairfax County by Laura Reasoner Jones. Each week, professional women in STEM
careers present to the girls the path they took to get to their career followed
by a hand- on activity. At the end of
each club year we take a culminating field trip. This year we went to MakerFaire NOVA at
Langston Hughes and South Lakes High School.
The girls thought it was one of the best field trips ever!

HES Spring 2017 Book Fair
3/27/17-3/31/17
Our Scholastic Book
Fair is a reading event that provides the books kids want to read.
It's a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading
level.
Reading for pleasure inside and outside of
school has real and long-lasting benefits. It unlocks the power of information
and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Please make plans to
come to our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child's reading habits.
Remember, all purchases benefit our school.
See you at the Book Fair!
