Kindergarten
Orientation
Our Kindergarten Orientation is on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 2:30pm in the
cafeteria. This is an orientation meeting for rising Kindergarten students (Fall 2017)
and their parents. Please arrange childcare for preschoolers and other
siblings.
Family Life Education Dates: Grades 4-6 will be teaching FLE on the following dates: (Please contact your student's teacher with any questions.) 4th grade: week of April 3-7 5th grade: week of April 3-7 6th grade: March 30, 31, April 4-7
Spring Pictures Spring class pictures will be rescheduled for a date in late April. We will update you when we establish the date with the photo people.
Staff Appreciation Luncheon Our annual Staff Appreciation Luncheon will be held on Monday, April 17th. We want to recognize and celebrate our staff for all they contribute to our children and community. We are looking for volunteers who can donate food for this special day. For more information or to donate please visit: Staff Appreciation Luncheon Although Staff Appreciation Week is the first full week in May, from May 1st – 5th; hosting the luncheon on April 17th will allow our staff the opportunity to enjoy a delicious luncheon with all of their colleagues. We do understand that many families will be traveling for the spring break and Easter holidays, so if you are unable to commit to a food donation, please consider donating a gift card to Wegmans to help us pick up the items needed. Please note that April 17th is a student holiday, so there will be no school for students on this day.
Scholastic Spring Book Fair
Have S’more Fun with Books!!
This spring, it’s time to head to the great outdoors with the Happy
Camper Book Fair: S’more Fun With Books! Pack up your gear and prepare
yourself for a wilderness adventure filled with exciting new books from
Scholastic and other popular publishers.
The Scholastic Spring Book Fair will take place Monday, March 27th –
Friday, March 31st. Wednesday, March 29th is Family
Night where the book fair will host extended hours so students and
families can shop together.
Throughout the book fair, your teacher will update their
book fair wish lists so be sure to check your teacher’s wish list. The
wish lists can be found by the front registers. These wish list books
help expand your student’s classroom libraries!
We need volunteers to help make this an amazing
book fair. If you can volunteer your time to help our Hunt Valley
students, we would be extremely grateful. Each teacher has selected
a time for their class to preview and/or purchase books. Check the list
to see when your child’s class will be previewing, this is a great opportunity

Pancake Dinner and Basket Raffle
Once again this spring the Hunt Valley PTA is hosting a Pancake Dinner to
celebrate the final day of our Scholastic Book Fair. On Friday,
March 31st, Chris Cakes will provide an all you can eat pancake
dinner complete with flipping and throwing so our dinner will be very
entertaining. We will also host a basket raffle where we plan to raffle
off several fun filled baskets to make the evening complete! Tickets for the Pancake Dinner and Basket Raffle will
be sold in advance and at the door on the day of the event. For

2017 Special Education Conference Hayfield SS FCPS will hold its 12th annual Special Education Conference on Saturday, April 1, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hayfield SS. The conference, designed for parents and educators of students who receive special education services or who have learning challenges or special needs, will feature Nancy Mather, Ph.D., professor of special education at the University of Arizona, as the keynote speaker. Mather will discuss “Elephant in the Room: What We Overlook Regarding Struggling Readers,” that will address issues affecting the identification of students who struggle with reading and appropriate interventions. Spring Beautification Day Our annual Spring Beautification Day will take place on Saturday, May 6th from 8am–3pm. Our Rain date will be Sunday, May 7th, with a backup weekend of June 3rd and 4th. Run Fit Kidz. Long term running, popular kids running program,

Career Day - Hunt
Valley Elementary will be hosting a Career Day on Thursday, April 6, 2017, for
all 5th and 6th grade students. We are looking for speakers from a
variety of different Careers. If you, or anyone you know, would be willing to
be a speaker we are interested in your participation. Our goal on this
day is to encourage the children and provide them with the knowledge they need
to follow their interests. We would like professionals from a various
fields to join us for a few hours (9:00 - 12:30) to share their career choices,
educational background, some of the details of their day-to-day work. We
would like you to touch on what drew you to your chosen field, how you use math
and reading in your job and any information or demonstration you think the
children will find interesting. You will be grouped with other presenters
and share for approximately 5 minutes for 8 different groups. We will be
following up with more details about presenting once we have interest from
possible speakers. If you are interested please click on the following
