Herndon ES Garden Corner

Did you know that HES has a vegetable garden?  THANK YOU to HES parents, Amanda Geary and Jill Vinson, who have created an amazing program.  They work with the teachers, students and even the community to bring creative and fruitful learning projects to our school.  One of their projects, Pond Ecosystems, was featured in FCPS Photos of the Week last week.

Garden volunteers needed!  Join us every Monday to help with the Garden Program! Activities include helping students plant seeds and weed the garden to helping students collect food scraps in the cafeteria to deliver to our compost bins!  We will also need helpers when we host speakers in the garden and to assist in other classroom activities.  You can help for one Monday or every Monday, we are flexible!  Please contact Amanda Geary and Jill Vinson at HESGarden@gmail.com   Come help our garden program "grow"!

Follow the progress on their blog https://hesgarden.wordpress.com/ and on twitter @HESGardenGrow.

Summer Enrichment Programs at The College of William and Mary

The Center for Gifted Education (CFGE) is accepting registrations for the 2017 Summer Enrichment Program (SEP). Session I will begin on Monday, June 26, 2017 and conclude on Friday, June 30, 2017, consisting of 5 consecutive days of instruction. Session II will begin on Monday, July 10, 2017 and conclude on Friday, July 14, 2017, consisting of 5 consecutive days of instruction. The Summer program will be located at the William & Mary Mason School of Business located at 101 Ukrop Way, Williamsburg, VA 23185.

SEP is an academically challenging program with an emphasis on inquiry-based learning for students enrolled in grades K-9. SEP is not meant to supplant the regular school curriculum; rather, it recognizes the importance of allowing able students to explore additional specialized areas of science, mathematics, humanities, and the arts.

The program’s brochure is accessible through the Center’s website at http://education.wm.edu/centers/cfge/precollegiate/sep/index.php.

If you have any questions or if there is anything with which we can assist you, please do not hesitate to contact the CFGE office by phone at (757) 221-
