A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPALS

Spring is here!  We are excited to see the sun and feel the warm air!

News and Information:

Registration is now open for FCPS’ 12th annual Special Education Conference. The conference will be held on Saturday, April 1, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hayfield Secondary School. It is designed for parents and educators of students who receive special education services or who have learning challenges or special needs.

Nancy Mather, Ph.D., professor of special education at the University of Arizona, is the keynote speaker. Mather will discuss “Elephant in the Room:  What We Overlook Regarding Struggling Readers,” which will address issues affecting the identification of students who struggle with reading and appropriate interventions.

There will be guest speakers, numerous breakout sessions, and exhibitors sharing information on the latest research, strategies, special education services, and community resources for students with special needs. Get more information or register for the conference.

New Check In System

We have a new Visitor Management Check In System, this will replace the current check in system. A notebook will be used for signing in tardy students and students being checked out early.

Visitors and volunteers MUST present a valid driver’s license when visiting and volunteering in the school. We understand we see many of you on a regular basis, but this new system will require a driver’s license EACH time you check in to the school regardless of if you have already been issued a volunteer badge. We appreciate your support as we implement this new system so that we can ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Thanks to all of our parent volunteers!  We appreciate the time you take out of your busy day to spend with us!

Kind regards,

Ms. Cage and Ms. Bower

Bonnie Brae received a donation of $1,000 dollars. Mrs. Soni's mother entered Bonnie Brae in a drawing as her favorite school.

Thank You SCA

The Bonnie Brae Student Council Association (SCA) held a food drive for the Salvation Army in December. We were invited to a volunteer luncheon as a thank you. The SCA Officers attended the luncheon and accepted a certificate of appreciation from the Salvation Army. They said that our donation came at very good time.

Cold Weather Information

During this time of year, we have to consider a number of factors related to student activity outdoors.  Beyond a specific temperature, we consider factors such as wind chill, whether the ground is frozen or the sun is shining, how well the children are prepared to play outdoors (jackets, gloves, and hats), what activity the children are participating in, and the length of time to be spent outside. Deciding when students may play outdoors remains the responsibility of the principal based on the factors listed above.

Please send your children prepared to play outdoors (jackets, gloves, and hats). During a NWS Wind Chill Warning, outdoor activities will be cancelled. Outdoor activity includes; general and physical education classes, recess, and scheduled fire drills. This does not include students walking to and from school, students waiting at bus stops, student patrols or staff related outdoor duties before, during, or after the school day. We will do our best to ensure that all students get to play outdoors every day. Stay connected about delayed school openings or closings by checking the FCPS website and or local news for updates. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
