Dear Parents:
I am sending this message to let you
know that our goal is to ensure students are safe in school and learning every
day.
Some families have expressed concerns
for the safety and treatment of their children in school and in the larger community
following recent news reports of increased activity by Immigration and Customs
Enforcement (ICE). Families are also concerned about news reports about
migrants and refugees. Our responsibility as a school system is to educate
every child and educating children from international families is not a new
circumstance in Fairfax County.
It is important to note that there are
no reports of ICE officials visiting schools or stopping students from
attending school in Fairfax County. FCPS strongly supports the right of every
student and family in our schools to be safe, and free from harassment on the
bus, at school and at school activities.
Current U.S. Immigration and Customs
Enforcement (ICE) Policy states that schools are to be considered sensitive locations
for immigration enforcement and that arrests, interviews, searches and
surveillance should not occur at schools unless under exigent
circumstances.

alumnos estén seguros en la escuela y aprendiendo todos los días.
Algunas
familias han expresado sus inquietudes con respecto a la seguridad de sus hijos
y a la manera en que se les trata en la escuela y en la comunidad en general
después de escuchar las recientes noticias de que el Servicio de Inmigración y
Control de Aduanas de los Estados Unidos (ICE, por sus siglas en inglés) ha
aumentado sus actividades. Las familias también están preocupadas por las
noticias que escuchan acerca de los migrantes y los refugiados. Nuestra
responsabilidad como sistema escolar es educar a todos y a cada uno de nuestros
niños y FCPS ha educado desde hace mucho tiempo a niños de familias
extranjeras.
Es
importante señalar que no hay ningún informe de que agentes de inmigración
(ICE) estén visitando las escuelas ni impidiendo que alumnos asistan a la
escuela en el condado de Fairfax. FCPS respalda firmemente el derecho que tiene
cada uno de los alumnos y las familias de nuestras escuelas de estar seguros y
de que no sean objeto de acoso en el autobús, la escuela ni en las actividades
escolares.
La política
actual del Servicio de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas de los Estados Unidos
(ICE) estipula que las escuelas deben considerarse como localidades sensibles
en lo que respecta a hacer cumplir las leyes de inmigración y que en las
escuelas no deben ocurrir arrestos, entrevistas, registros ni vigilancias salvo
que existan circunstancias apremiantes.
