Fairfax County Youth Survey Results

FCPS presented the Youth Survey results from the McLean High School pyramid on Feb. 2, 6:30-8:00pm in the McLean High School Auditorium.

Thank you to the Longfellow and McLean counselors and administrators who dedicated their evening to sharing information from the survey results as well discussing programs in place for our youth.

The Fairfax County Youth Survey was administered to FCPS students in November 2016 by the Fairfax County School Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. The survey is anonymous and no individual information is reported.

The survey collected data regarding students' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors on health, health risks, substance use, eating disorders, obesity, and sexual behavior. Survey results are used to help gauge the extent to which youth engage in behaviors that pose a risk to their current and future health.  The results assist the community in developing appropriate education, prevention, and intervention programs.

Results can be found HERE.

Attention Senior Parents:

The senior class would like to offer an opportunity to show your support!  For $20, you can purchase a durable, weather resistant yard sign to show your student just how proud you are of their graduation from MHS! Double sided signs measure 15" x 22" and are personalized with your student's name.

Proceeds will go towards senior spring events, including catered breakfasts.

$20 per sign. Order by May 1st!  Use the order form HERE.

You will be notified by phone or e-mail when your order is ready for pick-up!  Show your Highlander pride and support the Class of 2017!

McLean Juniors & Junior Parents:

The Junior class has been working hard, but fundraising alone won’t pay for all the class events. That said, it is necessary to collect dues.  Junior class dues, along with fundraising activities, help pay for class events enjoyed by the students, which are not covered by the County.

Junior class dues are $35 per student

To pay class dues, please enclose cash or check payable to “McLean High School Class of 2018” in an envelope with “Attn: Ms. Emmons - Class of 2018,” as well as the student’s name clearly written on the outside of the envelope. Payment can be dropped off in the main office. Dues can also be mailed to the school with “Attn: Ms. Emmons - Class of 2018” written above the address line. Donations are always welcome too!

Valentine Flowers!

The Junior class is selling flowers to be delivered during school on Valentine’s Day! The sale is taking place in all lunches through February 10th. One flower costs $1, and a dozen costs $10.

Flowers can be delivered to students and staff members!

When a Whisper Becomes a Weapon: The Children’s Hour at TheatreMcLean, February 16-19, 2017

In 1934, playwright Lillian Hellman did the unthinkable -- she revealed the bitter truth. Through her beautifully written play The Children’s Hour, Hellman challenged not only the mid twentieth century stigma against homosexuality, but also publicized a powerful message about the danger of gossip and lies. McLean High School’s accomplished theatre department (TheatreMcLean) dives into the transcendent world of The Children’s Hour as its second production of the 2016-2017 season.

The Children’s Hour runs in McLean High School’s Burke Theatre February 16 through 19. Appropriate for mature audiences, tickets are $12-$15, and may be purchased online HERE.
