New Traffic Pattern
Since the 2012 school year,
the Fairfax County Police Department has recorded 41 vehicle crashes on Sutton
Rd., along the school boundary extending to Blake Lane. Most recently, an
increasing number of these accidents is occurring at the campus exit onto
Sutton Road., at Blake Lane. Drivers attempting to make a left turn onto
northbound Sutton Rd.at this location, particularly at dismissal times, must
contend with both an increased volume and flow of traffic and a limited line of
sight for observation of oncoming traffic. In order to reduce the number of
crashes at this exit, effective February 7, 2017, right turns only will be
permitted. Posted signage and orange Traffic Safety barrels will be installed
to prohibit left turns. Drivers seeking to proceed north on Sutton Road, will
need to travel around the rear of the school and exit at the 4-way stop
intersection.

AP Exams – Non-Enrolled Students – Deadline March 1
If any student wants to take an AP exam in a course that he/she is not enrolled in, registration is now open. Each exam costs $100, and the form to register can be found in school counseling or on our website. Students currently enrolled in an AP course are automatically registered for the corresponding AP exam and do not need to complete any form.
If you have any questions about AP testing in general, please contact one of our AP testing coordinators: Martha Rodeheaver at myrodeheaver@fcps.edu or Alyson Calvello at acalvello@fcps.edu.
College Board Accommodations – Deadline January 31 for AP Exams
Students who have an IEP or 504 do not automatically have College Board accommodations. If your child is planning on taking a PSAT, SAT, or AP Exam, you must apply for accommodations through the College Board. For AP Exam approval, paperwork must be submitted to Oakton by January 31, to allow for processing prior to the College Board deadline. All paperwork is to be given to John Glufling, SSD Coordinator at Oakton High School. We encourage you to turn in paperwork as soon as possible, as the process can take a long time. Students who have been approved in previous years do not need to apply again.
To apply for College Board accommodations, each of the following must be completed:
Paperwork should be delivered to Oakton High School to the attention of John Glufling, or emailed to jaglufling@fcps.edu.
If you have any questions regarding the process, you can contact your child’s case manager or counselor, or email John Glufling at jaglufling@fcps.edu or Martha Rodeheaver, Assessment Coach, at myrodeheaver@fcps.edu.
