What's the buzz?
The students
at Herndon Elementary are full STEAM ahead!
Led by Ms. Gibson and Mr. Lengel in the Stem Lab, they are creatively learning about
chain reactions, incline planes, building and testing, and that learning
happens when you make an attempt, fail, make changes, more attempts and
succeed! In classrooms, students are colonists fed up
with taxes; paleontologists who are learning to hypothesize; landscape
designers learning square feet planning on paper, researching zones, creating
the garden calendar, and all about recycling including composting; and project
based learners using Power Point and library databases for their project on
Ancient Greece.

 Arts is the "A" in STEAM
STEM guest speakers needed!
Are you a woman who works in the Science,
Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics fields? Or do you know a woman who
works in a STEM field?
Would you like to share information about
your career and the path you took to get there with young girls?
The Herndon Elementary Girls Excelling in
Math & Science (GEMS) Club needs you! We need guest speakers who would be
willing to share their career and path that got them there for 30 minutes to
fourth through sixth grade girls. We will follow up with a related
activity which the speaker may stay for if she would like. GEMS ends at
10:30 am.
We are looking for speakers on these Saturday
dates from 9:00 am to 9:30 am at Herndon Elementary: Jan 28, 2017; Feb
11, 2017; Feb 25, 2017; March 4, 2017; March 17, 2017.
If interested, please send at least two dates
you would be willing to come speak to the GEMS club. We will get back to you

VALENTINE'S BINGO!!!
Come share the love with your HES friends at Valentine's
Bingo on Friday, February 10th at 6 pm in the gym.
We will have bingo games, cake walks, silent auctions
and guessing games!
The SCA will sell pizza, drinks and deserts.
Volunteers are needed to make this event a success.
