Announcements
1. Schedule Change: Please make a note of the following change to our student schedule: Monday, January 23rd will now be designated as a B day to balance classroom instructional time around the holidays.
2. New Website Design Launch: On Thursday, January 19, Carson MS will launch a newly
designed website, which will offer several advantages including:
- Displaying on
mobile devices, an important feature because so many of you are coming to
the site through cell phones

Enabling the
easy sharing of content between school and Fairfax County Public Schools
(for example, emergency alerts about weather closures etc. from the main
site will be promptly displayed on the school site)
- Making
navigation of sites easier for parents as children progress through the
FCPS schools because all sites will feature similar menus
- Featuring
accessibility to all users with disabilities (508 compliant)
We are proud that Carson is one of the first schools
to move its website to the new format adopted by FCPS this past summer.
If you are not able to find the information you need on our
home page, you can use any of the following:
- Search
Function, similar to the way you would look for information on Google
- Top
Menu, which links to main topics including About, Academics,
Activities, Resources, and Contact Us
- Full
Menu, in the upper left hand corner of the home page, which shows all
the items under the main topics
If you have bookmarked our current website at http://www2.fcps.edu/RachelCarsonMS,
be sure to update that with our new website address https://CarsonMS.fcps.edu.
While we have tried to include all of the information
that you come to rely on, there may be something that we have forgotten. If that

website. After you’ve had a look, please help us by filling out a short survey.
3. 8th Grade Field Trip-Finance Park: Students have begun traveling to Finance Park with their RCMS Teams. Please make a note of these dates:
Explorers – Tuesday, January 17th
Voyagers – Wednesday, January 18th
Wolves – Thursday, January 19th
X-treme – Monday, January 23rd
Yellow Jackets – Tuesday, January 24th
Dolphins – Wednesday, January 25th
4. Rising 7th Grade Parent Orientation: On Thursday, February 9, at 6:15 PM, we will host a Parent Orientation for parents and guardians of students who will attend RCMS as 7th graders for the 2017-2018 school year. If you have a rising 7th grader, or if you have a neighbor who has recently moved to our community, please make plans to attend this informative evening.
