Seventh Grade Mental Health Wellness Program – Wednesday, Dec. 7 & Thursday, Dec. 8

Kilmer school counselors, along with our school social worker and psychologist, will be implementing the A.C.T. (Acknowledge, Care, Tell) Mental Health Wellness Program– a depression awareness and suicide prevention program. The goals of this program are to educate students on the signs and symptoms of depression, to let students know what to do if they have concerns about themselves or a friend, and to connect students who may need support with resources inside and outside of school. Over the last two years, KMS has implemented this program school-wide in seventh grade. The program includes a 25 minute video titled “Time to ACT”. The video highlights the stories of three middle school students and provides simple tips and instructions to help students identify signs of distress in themselves and others and the action steps to A.C.T. - Acknowledge, Care, and Tell. After the video, all students will complete a brief screening form to assess if further support is needed. Our school counselors, psychologist, and social worker will review the screening forms on the same day, meet with students who identified symptoms of depression, and notify parents. Please keep in mind that this form is a not a diagnostic tool. Rather, it is a way of gathering information that may suggest potential concerns. Parents and guardians will be contacted if there are immediate concerns.

The Mental Health Wellness Program for seventh grade students is scheduled for December 7 and 8. Please click here to view the parent letter with additional information.

Change in bell schedule on Thursday, Dec. 8

Due to the upcoming Mental Health Wellness Program taking place on Wednesday, Dec. 7 and Thursday, Dec. 8, there will be a change in Thursday’s bell schedule for all students in order to accommodate the immediate follow up required after the program. Period 8 will flip flop with period 1 (8, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 1). For more information about this program, please reference the link to the parent letter above.

8th Grade Parents - Finance Park, VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Dear Parents - after a 3-week course on financial literacy jointly taught in Math and Civics classes in December and January, all students will embark on a field trip to Finance Park in January to put what they've learned to good use.  We need a great deal of parent and guardian support to make this trip a success, and we would really appreciate if you could join us!  Parents who have accompanied us in the past have given very high reviews to the experience and some have even come back in subsequent years to join us again.  Please click on this link of the Finance Park Volunteer flyer for more details!  If you can't open the attachment, please visit your child's Civics class Blackboard site at http://fcps.blackboard.com.  Thanks in advance for your help!

Make-Up Photos

A final opportunity for make-up or retake photos will be next Thursday, December 8th during PAWS and lunch periods. If you would like your student to retake photos, he / she must bring the old photos with them.
