PSAT, PSAT 8/9, and Candidates Day – Wednesday, October 19th

On Wednesday, October 19, students in grades 9 and 10 will take either the PSAT or the PSAT 8/9. Students in 9 and 10 are automatically registered; the deadline for registering an 11th grader passed last week.

On October 19, students should report to their 4th period teacher to get their test location assignment. The test procedures will begin at 8:25. Testing locations will also be available outside of school counseling.

Seniors will participate in Candidate’s Day. They will report to the auditorium after attendance is taken in 4th period.

All students will be dismissed at 12:55 after lunch at 12:30. There are no other classes during the day.

Weekly Progress Reports

Beginning on October 17, 2016, Weekly Progress Reports will be generated through SIS. All parents that have registered SIS Parent Accounts, and have students enrolled in either middle or high school will receive these emails. Located in each parent account is a tab titled, My Account. Within this tab parents have the option to choose which day of the week they wish to receive the progress report emails, opt out of the service entirely, or designate a threshold for notification (if a grade drops below a set value).
After October 17th, emails will be automatically sent during the week, providing a summary of student’s grades for the current quarter. If needed, parents are encouraged to seek additional information by logging into their ParentVUE account, and then, if further clarification is needed, parents should contact their teacher.
There will be several weeks during the school year 2016-17 when the Weekly Progress Report emails will not be sent due to holidays and the high volume of gradebook usage by teachers while averaging quarterly report card grades. No Weekly Progress Reports will be sent during the following weeks:
-November 7 – 11
-November 21 – 25
-December 19 – 30
-February 6 – 10
-April 10 – 14
-April 17 – 21
The final Weekly Progress Report emails will be sent during the week of June 12 – 16 (The last day of school is 6/23).

Attendance Notes

Did you know that if you have plans for the upcoming Thanksgiving and December holidays you can send in an absence note now? Please, send in a note now and avoid the \rush. You can call the attendance line, but for this, notes are preferable. Thank you for thinking of this now and making the days less stressful for you and for our office staff. We make every effort to clear the lines before the robo calls start going out. This is especially hard to do just before the long breaks when so many absences are called in. Making arrangements now is very helpful. Thank you!

Our full attendance policy and process can be found on our website.

Digital Citizenship Week

This week is Digital Citizen Week and FCPS has created a great video resource that talks about ,"Online and Internet Safety". Save the date for the Oakton Pyramid's Digital Citizenship Expo, which will take place on November 29th here at Oakton High School.
