Navigating the Emotional Rollercoaster of the
Teen Years
Teens are particularly vulnerable to a
roller coaster of emotions during adolescence because of major brain changes
taking place between the ages of 12 and 25. These emotional ups and downs are
all part of normal teen development. For parents, it can be a frustrating
and confusing time. Is my teen moody, is it depression, or something more
serious? What do I do if I need more information or help?
Each year the Robinson Counseling staff
conducts a Depression Screening with 7th through
11th graders(*details provided in a separate KIT message, including
Opt-Out procedures).
Parents are invited to attend an evening presentation to meet members of the
Robinson Counseling team, attend a presentation on teen behaviors and
depression, and view the video and
assessment presented to the students. The Parent Information Night begins
immediately following the regularly scheduled PTSA Board meeting; this is an
open meeting and all are welcome to attend.
