 Chorus Rehearsal
Dear Willow Springs Community,
Week
#3 of the 2016-17 school year is concluding, and we are fully into the school routine!
Students are moving about the building with ease, bus arrivals and dismissals are going smoothly. We had our third fire drill this week and the building was
evacuated in one minute and fifty seconds, much faster than the previous two
fire drills. We also had our first of four lockdown drills today where students
remain in their classrooms and all interior and exterior doors are closed and locked;
once students are accounted for, the school returns to normal operation.
We
had our fourth through sixth grade Back to School Night on Tuesday. Parents
filled the classrooms, excited to meet teachers and learn about the curriculum and
activities for the school year. If you were unable to attend, please reach out
to your classroom teacher.
We
encourage all students to bring their own devices to school (BYOD). They can be
used in the classroom in various lessons. Three of our third grade teachers, Ms. Carroll, Ms. Nauman, and Ms. Mattocks all have a 1:1 ratio of devices to students. Combined with technology provided at school, the number of devices that are brought in from home ensures that all students in each of these classes is able to access a device for a variety of research, projects, and other applications any time they choose. Check out this video that two of our tech-savvy students made last June to get their peers excited about BYOD. Use this link to see how our students
benefit from this initiative.
Did
you know your children can eat breakfast at school? We have quite a few students already enjoying this convenient option, but are excited for more to join! See below for more
information.
Our
new fundraiser is underway and the response, so far, has been amazing! For
those who have not heard yet, we are trying a new type of fundraiser this year.
There will be no selling, no pledges to
collect, and no disrupting the school day with pep rallies and prizes. We are simply asking that each family
make a one-time donation to the PTA
to help with the wide variety of programs supported by the PTA. This type of
fundraiser allows the PTA to keep 100% of donations, which are all tax
deductible. Please visit the PTA Website for more information and to make a
donation.
Have
a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Dylan Taylor, Principal
Sara Van Aalst, Assistant
