Back to School Night

Our second Back to School Night is this week! Parents of 11th and 12th graders are invited to join us this Thursday night, September 22, starting at 6:50 pm in the auditorium. Following the initial session, parents will cycle through their child’s schedule, first with their burgundy day classes, then gold day. More details can be found here: http://www2.fcps.edu/OaktonHS/forms/back%20to%20school%20night%202016%20letter%20to%20parents.pdf

All students in 11th and 12th grade will be given a class schedule that includes the evening’s schedule on it in 3rd period tomorrow, and should give this to parents to use at BTSN.

Other highlights of the night include:

  •  Tables in the gym lobby before the 6:50 pm session with information about PTSA and other organizations at Oakton.
  • At 6:15 pm in the library, parents who have not yet activated SIS can receive a letter that grants them the access key. We will be in the library until 8:00 pm.
  • If parents do not have a schedule, these can also be found in the library beginning at 6:15 pm.
  • Parents of juniors can drop off their $17 fee and form for the PSAT in the library if they want their child’s test to be scored.

School Supply Donation Drive

You may or may not be aware, but there are many students and families in our school community who are facing significant financial struggles. Back to school can be an especially difficult time. Buying school supplies like backpacks, notebooks, and highlighters simply may not be an option.
Therefore we are asking for your help. The following wish list includes those items most in need: backpacks, three ring binders, subject dividers, spiral notebooks, composition notebooks, pencils, highlighters, pens, loose leaf paper and notecards.
Please drop off items to the main office or at Back to School Night on September 22nd.
Thank you for your support of all of our Oakton students!

SIS Gradebook Available

Parents and students, the grade book feature of ParentVUE and StudentVUE are now available. Feel free to download the ParentVUE app or the StudentVUE app to stay on top of your grades. Both apps can be found in the Appstore and the Google Play store.

PSAT and PSAT 8/9 – Wednesday, October 19th

On Wednesday, October 19, students in grades 9 – 11 will take either the PSAT or the PSAT 8/9.

9th grade students will take the PSAT 8/9. Exams are paid for by FCPS.

10th and 11th grade students will take the PSAT. 11th graders who wish to take the exam and have it scored must pay a $17 fee. Sophomores’ exams are paid for by FCPS.

FCPS pays for the freshmen and sophomores to take the exam, but juniors must pay a $17 fee to have their test scored. If you are a junior who wishes to have his/her PSAT scored, please fill out our form to register for the exam and return the $17 check made out to Oakton High School to the School Counseling office no later than October 12. The form can be found here.

Parents who attend Back to School Night may return forms in the library.

Freshmen are automatically registered for the PSAT 8/9 and sophomores are automatically registered for the PSAT. Juniors must submit the form and pay $17 if they wish to have their exam scored. Juniors who do not pay the fee prior to the exam day will not be able to have their exam scored by College Board.
