Calendar Reminder: 2016-17 School Year to Begin on Tuesday, September 6

The 2016-17 school year will begin onTuesday, September 6, and end on Friday, June 23, 2017. Many schools hold open house events or orientation activities in the weeks before school starts to allow students and families to meet teachers and staff members and to drop off school supplies. Check with your child's school for the date and time of its events.

Annual Virginia Tax Holiday Applies to School Supplies, Clothing Purchases

Families in Virginia will get a sales tax break on clothes and supplies for school when the state holds its annual Virginia tax holiday, August 5-7. (more)

 

Book Your Summer Ends on September 7

Book Your Summer

Book Your Summer is a program that builds a community of readers in FCPS that will run until September 7. Similar to a Bingo game, rising first through 12th grade students are encouraged to spend the summer reading using the READ! activity card as a guide.

Students successfully participate if they achieve a “READ!” of their choice across the card in any direction. (more)

Fairfax County School Board Extends Superintendent’s Contract    

The Fairfax County School Board has voted to extend the contract of Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Karen K. Garza, effective July 1, for an additional four years. The new contract will run through June 30, 2020. (more)


Important Immunization Requirement: Do You Have a Student Entering Sixth Grade in September?

If yes, he or she may need a booster dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis). Sixth grade students cannot begin school in September without documentation of having had the Tdap booster. (more)
