Principal's Message

May 27, 2016

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

We had a full week of state testing and our students have worked hard to show what they know.  They all deserve a weekend of rest and relaxation!  We have two more state assessments to give next week.  Which are listed below:

SOL Testing Schedule Week 2

All Fairfax County Public Schools and offices will be closed on Monday, May 30th, in honor of the Memorial Day holiday.  Classes will resume on Tuesday, May 31st.  Stone students will attend all seven classes on Tuesday.  Many of our music students will leave early Friday, June 3rd for their music field trip to George Mason University and Busch Gardens.

Thank you for your support and all you do for our students and staff!

Amielia Mitchell

Principal

DRESS CODE

We are noticing a particular increase in the shortness of dresses, skirts, shorts (including sports shorts) and rompers worn by many of our female students.  We would like to clarify that wearing leggings or shorts underneath does not negate the shortness of the skirts.  Please use the “fingertip rule” as a guideline for deciding if a skirt, romper, shorts or dress is appropriate.  Skirts and shorts must be as long as the end of the middle finger when a student’s arm is completely extended at their side.  It is also important that a female’s backside remains COMPLETELY covered by their clothing when bending over.   We have also noticed an increase in baggy pants worn by our male students.  These boys tend to wear large sized pants without belts causing their pants to fall below their buttocks.  Boys must wear pants that securely fit at their waist.  Students may not wear tank tops, halter tops, or any tops that show cleavage, bare backs, or midriffs.  Students will be given one warning of a dress code violation and then will be asked to call a parent to bring a change of clothes.  A regular course of progressive discipline will occur after that.

Below is a reminder of what students should not wear to school and what is considered a violation of the Fairfax County Public Schools Dress Code:

  • Hats, headbands, sunglasses and bandanas
  • Halter tops, backless tops or short tops that expose midriffs
  • Tops with thin straps that expose bra straps
  • Low cut shirts that expose cleavage
  • See-through/mesh tops
  • Tank tops, tops with low cut arm holes
  • T-Shirts advertising alcohol or products prohibited in schools
  • T-Shirts with sexually explicit or suggestive art or language
  • Boxers worn as outer garments
  • Shorts/Skirts which are too short/revealing
  • Baggy, low-hanging pants revealing boxers, shorts or under-garments; Pajamas
  • Any clothing or manner of grooming which causes excessive distractions

STONE SPIRIT NIGHT AT CHIPOTLE

Please join us on Monday, June 6th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Chipotle in the Sully Shopping Center.  Stone MS will receive 50% of the proceeds.  Thank you for your support!
