sales as well as on the Oakton website.
Thank you for your support! We look forward to seeing you at the Masquerade
Ball!
Attendance May 2 – June 7 – no
morning phone out
During AP,
IB and SOL testing at high schools from May 2, 2016 through June 7,
2016 the morning attendance telephone calls, texts and e-mails to home for
reporting a student’s absence will not occur. This temporary suspension
reflects the fact that students are often in designated testing sites within
the school during the normal attendance-taking time. The evening attendance
telephone calls and e-mails will still remain in place.
SOL Testing
Yesterday we started SOL testing! Last week, student should have
received a letter from one of their teachers with details about each SOL test.
Please note that our bell schedule is modified for some of the test
days; the full schedule can be found on our
website.
If a student misses an SOL test, then he/she should plan to attend one
of the makeup dates: May 31 for English and social studies, and June 1 for math
or science. You do not need to email to let us if you are able to make one of
the makeup dates and will miss only one SOL test.
If you have any questions about SOL testing, you can email Martha
Rodeheaver at myrodeheaver@fcps.edu.
Academies and SOL Testing
As you know, our schedule has been modified to accommodate longer
testing blocks during SOL Testing. However, this impacts students who may go to
academy.
If your child attends an academy class, he/she may choose whether to
stay at Oakton with the modified schedule periods or attend academy. However,
we ask that our attendance office be notified to prevent the phone calls /
emails that go out. Thank you for your help!
Library Obligations:
Students with overdue books and unpaid fines will not be able to
purchase prom tickets this week, get their cap & gown for graduation, or
get parking passes for next year!
Students should come to the library to clear fines
BEFORE attempting to buy prom tickets, get graduation cap & gown, or get
parking passes – it will save time and frustration!!
For
students to clear fines and return books during May and June, they have the
following options:
·
Wednesday, May 18 – June 3: the library will be entirely
closed for SOL testing; HOWEVER, once all students are finished testing in the
main library, students will be allowed to enter to return books and pay
fines. When the library is closed for testing: between periods,
during Cougar Time, and during lunches, the librarians will be setup
outside the library (outside the main office or near Door 2 by the science
hall) to collect books and fines.
ALL LIBRARY BOOKS are due back by Thursday, June 2! Look around
your house, locker, car, backpack, etc. to locate books you have not turned in!
Civic Seal Deadline
If you anticipate earning a Diploma Seal for Excellence in Civics
Education, there is an upcoming deadline! If you are applying for the Oakton Seal,
the FCPS Service Cord, or the Virginia Seal for Excellence in Civics Education,
you must hand in your service hours to your Government teacher no later than June 1st! More
information about the seals can be found on the Social Studies website.
Rising seniors and ONLY rising seniors may now pick up a parking
application in the Gold Office.
The application process and assignment procedure for Rising Seniors:
Rising seniors obtain a parking application packet from Mrs. Manilli in
the Gold office.
Submit completed parking applications, with payment ($200), to the Gold
Office beginning Wednesday, June 1, 2016 through Friday, June 10,
2016. Application may be turned in before 8:05 a. m. and no later
than 3:30 p. m., during Cougar Time, during your lunch period each day and only
