Upcoming Schedule changes

Thursday, April 21st is a two hour early release for students and the last day of the third quarter.

Friday, April 22nd is a student holiday. Our offices will be closed from 11:15 – 1:00 on that day.

As always, our full burgundy/gold calendar is on our website.

AP Preregistration

We are hard at work preparing for AP exams from May 2-13!

All students who are registered for an AP exam need to attend preregistration this week to fill out demographic information prior to their AP Tests. The schedule for preregistration can be found on our website.

If seniors or juniors have missed preregistration, they can attend with sophomores – last name A-L tomorrow, or last name M-Z on Wednesday. Any student who hasn’t been able to attend during Cougar Time because of academy should attend tomorrow after school.

Other FAQs about AP Exams can also be found on our website.

Any questions can be emailed to Alyson Calvello (acalvello@fcps.edu) or Martha Rodeheaver (myrodeheaver@fcps.edu).

AP Proctoring – parent volunteers needed!

We are looking for parent volunteers to help with AP test proctoring! Oakton High School students will take over 2900 AP exams over two weeks in May, and parent support will help administer them smoothly.

If you are able to give your time, we ask that you sign up online. You may proctor any exam as long as your child is not taking that exam and you are not a teacher or professor in that subject.

Email Alyson Calvello (acalvello@fcps.edu) or Martha Rodeheaver (myrodeheaver@fcps.edu) with any questions. Thank you for your help!

Student Attendance during AP Exams

During preregistration, students are receiving a red or pink letter that details their AP exams, locations, and an opportunity to check in late for afternoon exams or leave early after a morning exam. Students should bring their signed red or pink form to the Gold Office no later than Thursday, April 28th. If you need a new form, you can see Mrs. Burke in the gold office!

No other notes will be accepted for AP Exam related absences.

FCPS Grading

On April 13, 2016, an article in the My FCPS Family publication informed parents about a new public webpage that has been created to share our current work with examining grading policies.  The page will include a short multimedia presentation and an opportunity for parent input among other items.  The opportunity for input will end on April 29, 2016.

Requirements and forms can be found on the Oakton web-site on the social studies page at http://www.fcps.edu/OaktonHS/socialstudies.html

Oakton Sports Pre-Participation Physicals

To participate in sports next school year, your child must have a physical on file dated on or after May 1, 2016, on the new form (Revised April 2016 ) which just came out last week. This includes working out in the weight room, conditioning, “green days” and try outs.
The Oakton High School Athletic Training Program is offering an opportunity for students to receive a sports health screening and pre-participation physical (PPE) on Monday May 16, 2016 from 5:30-8 pm. Our team physicians, as well as a staff of nurses, physical therapists and certified athletic trainers will be on hand to provide a thorough screening. If during the screening or physical, the physicians find something that is questionable to them regarding your child’s health, they may request further evaluation by another physician. We are asking for a minimum donation of $50 in exchange for the PPE. Registration is not open yet, however, to register for a PPE, go to: www.fcps.edu/sports and follow the links for sports physicals. There is a link for the new form there as well. Walk-ins are also welcome on that evening but we ask for a $60 donation at that time. This physical is good for the entire following school year.
This is the Athletic Training Program’s method of fund raising. All the funds for equipment and supplies are raised at this event. The county provides no funding for any of the supplies or equipment in the athletic training room that is used to take care of our athletes. Your support would be greatly appreciated. You too benefit from this process. Once your child’s VHSL physical form is completed that night, it stays on file at the school, as well as a digital copy is kept on our server, so if you need a copy just email one of the ATCs and we can sent you a copy.
PPE’s are being offered in the same format at every high school in FCPS and are fund raising efforts at those schools as well. If you can not attend the PPEs at Oakton H.S., there may be another local high school offering the opportunity on a date that may be more convenient for you. If you have any questions or concerns, contact Paul Rupp, MS, ATC at prupp@fcps.edu .
