Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation Releases Draft FY2027 Six Year Improvement Program
The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) has released its draft Fiscal Year (FY) 2027–2032 Six-Year Improvement Program (SYIP), outlining planned investments in public transportation, and freight and passenger rail across the Commonwealth over the next six fiscal years. The draft program is now available for public review on DRPT’s Open Data Portal.
The SYIP reflects DRPT’s ongoing commitment to supporting transit agencies, enhancing rail infrastructure, and improving mobility for communities throughout Virginia. The program includes investments in public transportation operations and capital projects, as well as funding to advance freight and passenger rail initiatives across the Commonwealth.
As part of the statewide transportation planning process, the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) is inviting public feedback on transportation projects and initiatives recommended for funding, including those included in the draft SYIP. The Draft FY 2027–2032 SYIP allocates funding across key programs such as Revenue Sharing, Transportation Alternatives, Innovation and Technology Transportation Fund, State of Good Repair, and public transportation and rail programs.
DRPT encourages the public to provide feedback on the draft program by attending public meetings or submitting comments online, by email, or by mail. The CTB will host nine public meetings across Virginia, providing opportunities for community members to learn more about proposed projects and share feedback. Public input will also be accepted for new projects valued at more than $25 million.
DRPT will host a virtual public hearing on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. Community members can participate by registering in advance. To attend, register here.
