Virginia Breeze Expands: East-West Bus Tickets Now on Sale
RICHMOND, VA - The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) today announced that tickets are now on sale for the Tidewater Current, a new Virginia Breeze intercity bus route launching April 20. It is the first east-west transit service in the Virginia Breeze network, connecting Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads with Richmond, Charlottesville, and Shenandoah Valley destinations along the I-64 corridor.
“Expanding the Virginia Breeze intercity bus network is part of our commitment to providing more transportation choices for all Virginians,” said Mariia Zimmerman, Director of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation. “The Tidewater Current creates an important east-west connection across the Commonwealth, helping people travel safely, affordably, and conveniently while supporting tourism and economic opportunity.”
The Tidewater Current is the fifth addition to the Virginia Breeze Bus Lines network and the fourth route launched within the past six years. The new service will connect 10 cities and 5 counties including a number of the state’s colleges and universities. Like all of the Virginia Breeze buses, Tidewater Current vehicles are equipped with a wheelchair lift to ensure rides are accessible to all; and plenty of storage space for travelers with luggage.
The Virginia Breeze transported over 68,000 passengers in 2025, a five percent increase over the prior year. The service has made a meaningful impact on Virginia’s roadways, reducing single-occupancy vehicle travel nearly 61 million miles and cutting greenhouse gas emissions by more than 10,000 tons.
The new Tidewater Current route includes stops at:
- Virginia Beach Convention Center
- Norfolk – Military Highway Park & Ride
- Newport News – Newport News Transportation Center
- Williamsburg – Williamsburg Transportation Center
- New Kent – Colonial Downs / Rosie’s Gaming Emporium
- Richmond International Airport
- Richmond Main Street Station
- Charlottesville – Scott Stadium
- Staunton – Crossing Way Park & Ride
- Harrisonburg – Godwin Transit Center
Tickets are available now at virginiabreeze.org.
