Welcome to The Loop, and thanks for hopping on board. From site visits and trainings to spirited team events, here’s a look at what our staff has been up to over the past two months.
WMATA Crystal City Site Visit
Our crew got an exclusive peek at Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s Crystal City Metro construction site to see firsthand the progress on a new second entrance. The project will improve access for riders and enhance connectivity in Northern Virginia.

GRTC Remix Training
We re-mixed things up (literally) with an interactive session on Remix, the planning software that turns big transit dreams into real-world routes. Data has never felt so dance-worthy.

HRT Smart Stop Launch
Wood Hudson attended the launch event at the Children’s Museum of Virginia in Portsmouth, celebrating Hampton Roads Transit’s new “smart stop” signs. Installed at more than 2,600 locations across six cities, the signs include QR codes that provide riders with real-time bus information.

Shalom Farms Volunteer Day
Taylor Holden, Paige Lazar, Raquel Aguirre, Katy Miller, Evan Tuten, Jess Maffey, and Jordan Chapman swapped laptops for garden gloves to volunteer at Shalom Farms, a local nonprofit farm that works to lower gaps in access to food. We planted collard greens, got our hands dirty, and helped nourish our community. Who knew Monday mornings could be this wholesome?

CTAV 2025 Conference
Jess Maffey crushed her session on the Coordinated Human Service Mobility (CHSM) Plan update, while Zach Trogdon, Grant Sparks, and Dan Sonenklar powered through the 5311 Funding Forecast panel alongside transit CEOs. Avery Daugherty wowed the crowd with a Virginia Breeze presentation, and later, Avery, Grant, Raquel, and Tiffany D. toured Valley Metro’s maintenance bay to check out their downtown trolley and electric buses. Throughout the conference, DRPT staff rocked the Expo floor, making connections and sharing resources with partners from across Virginia.

DRPT 2025 Spirit Week
This year’s Spirit Week was one for the books, filled with laughter, creativity, and a little competition:
-
Music Monday: We turned the office into a dance floor and set the tone for a fun week.
-
Twin/Taco Tuesday: From perfectly planned outfits to accidental doppelgängers, everyone found a “double” to bond with over tacos. Only the second day of Spirit Week, and our department already had plenty to taco ’bout!
-
Wellness Wednesday: Staff showed off their favorite team apparel, then had group stretch and walk to promote wellness—it was a slam dunk of an event!
-
Throwback Thursday: Vintage outfits and nostalgic ice cream treats transported us back in time.
-
Fun Fact Friday: Employees rocked DRPT colors and competed in a lively trivia contest. We learned plenty of quirky facts—like the Jersey Shore’s Japanese nickname, “Macaroni Rascals”—and made some great memories along the way.
