DRPT Encourages Virginians to Try Transit with New Ride Home Rewards Program
 The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) is making it easier than ever for Virginians to explore the benefits of sustainable travel this fall. As Try Transit Week returns September 15-19, DRPT is also introducing Ride Home Rewards, a new program that gives commuters peace of mind when choosing shared travel options like carpools, vanpools, and public transit.
During Try Transit Week, riders across the Commonwealth are invited to give public transit a try - whether for a daily commute, a quick trip to the store, or a weekend outing. Participants who log their trips in the ConnectingVA app from September 15-19 will be entered into regional prize drawings to win free bus passes, courtesy of select local transit providers.
At the same time, DRPT’s Ride Home Rewards program ensures commuters can count on a free ride home in the event of an emergency or unexpected overtime at work. To qualify, commuters must register in the ConnectingVA app, and record at least six carpool, vanpool, or transit trips within the 30 days prior to a ride request, including the day of the emergency.
Both initiatives are part of DRPT’s ConnectingVA platform, which helps commuters find and track smarter travel options while reducing congestion, lowering emissions, and expanding access to reliable alternatives to driving alone.
