Virginia Breeze Relocates Stop in Blacksburg, Enhancing Transit Experience
The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation is pleased to announce that its Virginia Breeze Bus Lines will be relocating its Blacksburg stop to the Multimodal Transit Facility (MMTF) on Virginia Tech's campus at 1324 Perry Street, adjacent to the south side of the Perry Street Parking Garage. This move is part of multiple relocations of Virginia Breeze passenger boarding locations, including future stop relocations in Wytheville and Staunton, that will provide passengers a more streamlined and enjoyable travel experience as they embark on their journeys to various destinations across the state and nation.
The Virginia Breeze's previous stop at the Squires Student Center has served the community well with nearly 80,000 riders arriving and departing from this location since the Virginia Breeze’s inception in December 2017. However, the planned relocation to the MMTF aligns with the long-term vision of providing a more convenient and efficient transit experience. The MMTF’s design plans have always incorporated the Virginia Breeze, emphasizing the importance of this intercity bus service within the community.
The new location at the MMTF boasts several enhanced amenities that will greatly benefit passengers with improved shelter lighting and accessibility features to provide a safer and more comfortable waiting area for travelers. Additionally, the strategic placement of the MMTF on Virginia Tech's campus allows for easier access by local transit providers, ensuring a seamless connection for passengers traveling to and from the university.
"We are thrilled to be relocating our Blacksburg stop to the Multimodal Transit Facility," said Zach Trogdon, Acting Director of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation. "This move represents a significant step forward in our commitment to providing a top-notch transit experience for our passengers. We are confident that the enhanced amenities and convenient location will greatly improve the overall journey for our valued customers."
The Virginia Breeze's relocation to the MMTF in Blacksburg will take effect on August 12th, 2024.
