RICHMOND — The Virginia Breeze Bus Lines will relocate its bus stop in Charlottesville on Saturday. The Virginia Breeze bus stop serving the Piedmont Express connecting Danville and Washington, D.C., now will be conveniently situated on the University of Virginia’s campus.
The new stop is located on Alderman Road near the Gooch/Dillard student housing building. The stop is serviced by Charlottesville Area Transit and University Transit Service. Previously, the stop was situated on Arlington Road at the Barracks Road Shopping Center.
The Virginia Breeze is an intercity bus service managed by the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) and funded through the Federal Transit Administration’s Intercity Bus Program. The Virginia Breeze is a service connecting rural communities across the Commonwealth to larger cities and other major forms of transportation. It operates four routes with service every day of the year: the Valley Flyer (Blacksburg-Washington), the Piedmont Express (Danville-Washington), the Capital Connector (Martinsville-Richmond-Washington), and the Highlands Rhythm (Bristol-Washington).
"We are excited to bring our bus stop to UVA's campus," DRPT Director Jennifer DeBruhl said. "This relocation aligns with our mission to provide reliable and convenient transportation options to the community. We look forward to better serving the Charlottesville community and enhancing their travel experiences."
DRPT launched the Piedmont Express route in 2020. It serves the Route 29 corridor with stops in Danville, Altavista, Lynchburg, Amherst, Charlottesville, Culpeper, Warrenton, Gainesville, Dulles International Airport, and Union Station in Washington, D.C. Last year, more than 6,600 people traveled along this route.
