Virginia Breeze announces service changes and guidance for riders 

Monday-Thursday service suspended effective April 5, 2020

The Virginia Breeze is suspending Monday-Thursday service effective Sunday, April 5, 2020, due to decreased ridership. Additional service modifications or reductions will be considered on April 13, 2020. Until then, weekend service (Friday-Sunday) will continue as scheduled. To comply with social distancing guidance, seat capacity for all trips has been reduced by half.

“The health and safety of our customers and employees are our top priority,” said Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation Director Jennifer Mitchell. “Virginians should stay at home whenever possible, but the Virginia Breeze will continue to be available for our underserved communities for essential travel purposes.”

Customers who have booked a trip on or before April 3, 2020, for travel before April 30, 2020, can reschedule their trip for any available travel date before September 8, 2020, at no additional cost. To request a refund or reschedule a trip, customers should contact Megabus customer service at inquiries@megabus.com or by calling 877-462-6342.

The Virginia Breeze is operated by Megabus, which has implemented the following protective measures:

• Placing disinfectant wipes on all buses so that high traffic area, handrails, and hard surfaces can be wiped down regularly.
• Washing and sanitizing buses daily.
• Providing individual hand sanitizers to all employees.
• Allowing as much fresh air as possible into the bus while en route with passengers. 

At this time, the Virginia Breeze should be limited to essential trips only — to get to and from work (for essential workers only) and to meet essential personal needs such medical trips, but not if you are sick. Individuals who need immediate medical care are urged to use an alternate mode of transportation and call your primary care physician or 911.

The Virginia Breeze is an intercity bus service operated by the Commonwealth of Virginia, connecting Blacksburg, Virginia, to Union Station in Washington, D.C. The existing route includes several stops in the New River Valley, the Shenandoah Valley, and Northern Virginia.
