ON-LINE GRANT APPLICATIONS FOR RAIL, PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION, AND TDM OPEN MONDAY, DECEMBER 3RD

~ Prospective grantees have until Friday, February 1, 2019 to submit applications for FY 2020 funding ~

The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) will begin accepting applications for rail, transit, and transportation demand management (TDM) grants for the 2020 Fiscal Year at 12:01 A.M. Monday, December 3rd. The annual grant application period runs through 5:00 P.M. Friday, February 1, 2019.

Rail, Transit and TDM funds are available through multiple state and federal sources to support public transit service, human service transportation, senior transportation, TDM, freight, commuter, and passenger rail programs in Virginia. Current Application Guidance for all DRPT administered grants, including eligible project categories, is available online at olga.drpt.virginia.gov. Please note that all applications must ALSO be submitted online.

The application period marks the first year the Commonwealth Transportation Board will implement the new project-based prioritization process for the statewide transit capital program known as MERIT and adopted by the 2018 General Assembly. It will also feature a revised allocation process for statewide transit operating funding based entirely upon service delivery factors.

Additionally, Intercity Passenger Operating And Capital (IPROC) rail applications will be evaluated on their ability to meet goals of the 2017 Statewide Rail Plan, support or advance design related to Long Bridge, the DC2RVA higher speed rail plan, and enhancing existing statewide passenger rail services.

Once the application period closes, DRPT will evaluate all submissions and submit to the CTB in April a list of recommended project funding for the Draft FY 2020-2025 Six-Year Improvement Program (SYIP).  A series of nine statewide public hearings will then be held before the CTB considers the final adoption of the FY 2020-2025 SYIP next June.
