Virginia's 10th Annual Try Transit Week Set for September 17th‐21st
~ Virginians Encouraged to Try Bus, Train, Ferry, or Vanpool ~

RICHMOND— The Commonwealth of Virginia and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) are pleased to celebrate the 10th Annual “Try Transit Week” from September 17th‐21st. Virginians are encouraged to try a form of public transportation during a week-long, educational event designed to encourage citizens to try the bus, train, ferry, or vanpool.

“Try Transit Week is a great time for Virginians to experience the many benefits of taking transit. When you use transit you get back the time wasted sitting in traffic, and you can use that time for more productive activities. By taking transit, you help alleviate congested corridors and, therefore, can get to your destination quicker,” says DRPT Director Jennifer Mitchell.

Participants who pledge to try transit at trytransitweek.org are automatically entered for a chance to win a year of free transit service from a participating Virginia transit operator as well as a pair of round‐trip tickets aboard Virginia's state-sponsored Northeast Regional train.* Other prizes include monthly or weekly passes for transit service in areas throughout Virginia. Pledges will be accepted through September 21, 2018.

The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) reports people who switch their daily commute from car to public transportation save over $10,000 annually. It also found that increased use of public transportation provides health benefits, reduces the risk of being in an automobile accident, and reduces pollution emissions.

DRPT and transit operators across the Commonwealth are spreading the word about public transportation, accessibility, and its numerous benefits. Find the transit or vanpool service right for you at trytransitweek.org.
