Advancing Computer Science Education Grant
VDOE is accepting applications for the Advancing Computer Science Education (ACSE) FY27 Competitive Grant, which provides $1.35 million to support implementation of the 2024 Virginia Computer Science Standards of Learning through professional learning, instructional resources and expanded student opportunities. Eligible applicants include school divisions, regional consortia and institutions of higher education. Projects should align with ACSE legislative priorities and demonstrate commitments to expanding access, increasing participation, strengthening implementation, and achieving measurable outcomes. Targeted Extended/Enriched School Year and Year-Round School Grant
The VDOE Office of Innovation is accepting applications for the Targeted Extended/Enriched School Year and Year-Round School Grant Program. This program, supported through Chapter 725, Item 124 M, includes both planning grants (up to $50,000) and startup grants (up to $300,000 per school, or $400,000 for schools identified as Needs Intensive Support or Off Track). Priority consideration is based on Fall 2025 School Performance and Support Framework results. Planning grant applications must include evidence of commitment to implementing the proposed model in the 2027-28 school year. Application materials are available on the Targeted Extended/Enriched School Year and Year-Round School Grant webpage. Submit applications to innovation@doe.virginia.gov by August 25.
School Division of Innovation Planning Grant
VDOE is accepting applications for the School Division of Innovation (SDI) Planning Grant. Grants of up to $50,000 are available to help school divisions and consortia develop innovative instructional models and prepare an SDI Plan for submission to the Virginia Board of Education. Application materials and proposal details are available on the School Division of Innovation webpage. Submit applications to innovation@doe.virginia.gov by August 26.
Professional Learning for English Teachers and Leaders
Throughout Fall 2026, the Office of English is providing several professional learning series and topics to support literacy leaders and educators across the Commonwealth. Registration in advance for sessions specific to division leaders, building administrators, reading specialists, coaches, and classroom teachers is required. Civic Education for Rural and Remote Communities Fellowship
The National Constitution Center’s Rural Educator Cohorts are yearlong professional learning communities led by Civic Education for Rural and Remote Communities (CERRC) Fellows. Designed specifically for educators serving rural and remote communities, these regional cohorts provide sustained opportunities to deepen constitutional knowledge, strengthen instructional practice, and build lasting connections with fellow educators across the country. Applications for the 2026–27 CERRC term are open through September 4 to elementary, middle, and high school teachers from rural and remote communities.
Shenandoah Valley Writing Project Institute
The Shenandoah Valley Writing Project (SVWP) will hold an Invitational Leadership Institute via Zoom in the 2026-27 school year. In the Institute, teachers share effective lessons, work on writing, and examine issues in teaching writing and using writing as a tool for learning. The Institute will be offered through synchronous Zoom meetings on Saturdays throughout the year, beginning on September 12. VDOE Diving Deeper Science Webinar Series Offered
Explore crosscutting concepts, scientific and engineering practices, modeling, and working with evidence-based claims through the Science Instructional Team’s Diving Deeper webinar series. Sessions will be held September 15, October 20, November 17, and December 15 from 4–5 p.m. Advance registration is required for each webinar.
Then and Now: James Madison, the First Amendment, and the Enduring American Conversation
Through a live virtual discussion, participants will explore the ideas that shaped the First Amendment, how those ideas were understood during the Revolutionary era, and how they are understood today. The program offers classroom-ready perspectives for educators teaching civics, constitutional history, and the American founding. Join Colonial Williamsburg's Bob and Marion Wilson Teacher Institute and Freedom Forum for a one-of-a-kind conversation on September 15 at 7 p.m., that brings the nation's founding into dialogue with the present.
2026 Virginia Farm to School & Directors Conference
The VDOE Office of School and Community Nutrition Programs invites you to the 2026 Virginia Farm to School and Directors Conference, happening in Richmond. Educators play a vital role in advancing farm to school. Whether you teach in the classroom, lead a school garden or student farm, support nutrition education, or partner with local growers, your expertise can inspire others across the state. The pre-conference site visits on September 21 and the Virginia Farm to School Conference Day on September 22 are free and open to the public. Poe in the Classroom
Bring Edgar Allan Poe to life in your classroom through an immersive professional learning program that blends rare primary sources with practical classroom materials. Educators will engage with teaching resources for immediate classroom use as well as collaborate on adapting materials and strategies for specific classroom application. The workshop is aligned to the Standards of Learning and focused on inquiry driven-approaches to making Poe’s world and writings resonate for today’s students. Earning this endorsement expands your teaching credentials while helping schools meet the growing need for qualified driver education instructors across the Commonwealth. Teachers with a driver education endorsement play a vital role in preparing students to become safe, responsible, and confident drivers. Coursework is available through both Virginia community colleges and four-year institutions, with flexible in-person, hybrid, and online options offered by multiple institutions throughout the state.
