VDOE School-Based Instructional Leadership and Administration in Special Education Conference
This two-day conference on December 10-11, in Harrisonburg, is for principals and assistant principals in the Commonwealth’s public schools that are federally identified (Comprehensive Support and Improvement, Targeted Support and Improvement, or Additional Targeted Support and Improvement) for continuous improvement needs in special education. Registration for the School-Based Instructional Leadership and Administration in Special Education conference closes November 12 at 4 p.m.
Nominations for Standard Setting Committees for the Reading Standards of Learning Tests
The Office of Assessment is accepting nominations for standard setting committees for the Reading Standards of Learning tests. Standard setting is necessary because of the implementation of new reading tests in spring 2025 based on the 2024 English Standards of Learning. The committee meetings will be held December 10-12, in Glen Allen. School division leaders/principals are invited to nominate teachers to serve on each of the Committees using the Reading Standard Setting Nomination form. Nominations are due by November 8.
VMFA Teacher Workshop: A Lens for Learning-Using the Art of Photography Across the Curriculum Attend VMFA’s upcoming teacher workshop on November 14 from 6-7:30 p.m. to visit the galleries and gain innovative ideas and activities for interdisciplinary learning. All teacher programs are aligned with Virginia SOL and model strategies for integrating works of art across K-12 curricula. Registration is required for this free workshop.
Botvin LifeSkills Training Program
This program was developed to support K-12 teachers with instruction on opioid misuse through evidence-based education and prevention programming that supports the 2020 Health Standards of Learning. The use of the Botvin Lifeskills program in classrooms to support instruction on opioid misuse and prevention is free to school divisions. Stipends are available to educators who complete training program and implement it in their classrooms. Call for Proposals for the 6th Annual VADLEN Dual Language Immersion Day
The Virginia Dual Language Educators Network invites educators, administrators, and instructional leaders to submit proposals for the 6th Annual Dual Language Immersion Day conference, themed "Building Bilingual Futures: Advancing Dual Language Immersion." This event will take place on February 22 at the Thomas Fulghum Conference Center in Midlothian. Proposals can be submitted until December 15.
