New SOL Mathematics Test Blueprints Based on the 2023 Mathematics Standards of Learning The Virginia Board of Education adopted the 2023 Mathematics Standards of Learning in August 2023. Full implementation of the 2023 Mathematics Standards will occur in the 2024-25 school year. The assessments measuring the Standards will be administered for the first time in the spring 2025 test administration in grades 3 through 8 and end-of-course. To support preparation for implementation, the new mathematics test blueprints are available online on the VDOE Test Blueprints website. Call for Proposals: VDOE-SCNP Conference Breakout Sessions- Due August 16 VDOE, Office of School and Community Nutrition Programs (VDOE-SCNP) will host the 2024 Virginia Farm to School and School Nutrition Programs Directors’ Conference at the Hotel Madison in Harrisonburg on October 29-30. VDOE-SCNP is now accepting proposals for conference breakout sessions. Details are included in SCNP Memo 2024-2025-09 available on the VDOE-SCNP website. Proposals must be submitted via email to Kiara.Christian@doe.virginia.gov by August 16.
Commemorating Constitution and Citizenship Day September 17, 2024 is Constitution Day and Citizenship Day (Constitution Day). This day commemorates the September 17, 1787, signing of the United States Constitution. Information and materials are provided by the three branches of government and can be used in the planning and teaching for this day.
VDOE-SCNP Director’s Conference The Virginia Farm to School and School Nutrition Programs Director’s Conference 2.5-day event is free and convenes school and community nutrition program operators, producers, distributors, nonprofit organizations, and stakeholders for program capacity building and networking sessions. All Virginia farm to school stakeholders are encouraged to attend the Farm to School Conference. The Directors’ Conference is open to school nutrition directors only. Educator Training on Renewable Energy at JMU The Center for the Advancement of Sustainable Energy at JMU offers free educator training, field trips, school visits, and hands-on resources to assist K-12 educators teaching renewable energy content. Coach Training and financial support is also available for educators interested in coaching a KidWind Challenge team for the 2024-2025 school year. Funding from the STEM+C Grant may be used towards this competition. Application window open until August 13. Contact Kim Ward for more information.
High School Voter Registration In 2020, the Virginia General Assembly passed legislation that requires all Virginia public high schools to provide to any enrolled student who is of voting age or otherwise eligible to register to vote access to Virginia voter registration information and applications, or access to the Virginia online voter registration system on a school-owned computing device, and the opportunity to complete such application during the normal course of the school day. VDOE history and social science program has an informational presentation to provide additional information for schools.
CSAAPT Fall Event The Chesapeake Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers will be holding their Fall 2024 Meeting on October 19, at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility in Newport News. All physics/science teachers and students may attend with no membership required. This semi-virtual meeting will be broadcast on Zoom so that people from afar, both presenters and attendees, can join in.

Evidence-Based Practices to Teach Students with Autism This VCU course provides educators with knowledge and skills to instruct students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the educational setting. It provides an overview of the importance of good instruction, appropriate skill selection, and evidence-based practices, including antecedent-based interventions, visual supports, systematic instruction, and interventions to promote social and communications skills. The next Evidence-Based Practices to Teach Students with ASD course is September 9-October 14. Register by September 2.
