VDOE has developed a new Spring SOL Parent Report designed to provide parents additional information in a clear and accessible format about their child's performance this year. The report is available to parents whose children have already completed the spring SOL assessments in school divisions around the Commonwealth. Additional resources are available from VDOE with tips to support learning at home including a Parent Letter, a video with Highlights from the 2024 Spring Parent Score Report and a Parent/Teacher Planning Tool.

Nominations for 2024-2025 CTE Curriculum Review Committees
The Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education is accepting nominations for the 2024-2025 CTE curriculum review committees. School divisions may nominate a CTE teacher for any of the 39 committees, as outlined in the CTE Review/Development Committee Schedule. Approximately 12 applicants will be selected by the Superintendent of Public Instruction to serve on each committee. All nominees who wish to serve on a committee must complete the web-based application using the CTE Application Processing System. More information is available from Article 2024-22-193.

Teacher Residency Partnership Opportunity
The Office of Apprenticeships is accepting proposals for a
teacher residency partnership. This is between university teacher preparation programs and hard-to-staff school divisions to help improve teacher candidate training and retention for hard-to-staff schools. The grants will support a site-specific residency model for planning, development, and implementation of the program. Details available at Teacher Residency Programs Call for Proposals. Apply by 4 p.m. on August 1.  

SURN Leadership Conference - June 10-11
The annual leadership conference at William & Mary’s School of Education will feature educational researcher and author John Hattie. Additional speakers and concurrent session offerings will help leaders plan strategically for the upcoming year. Register today!

Student Ambassadors for Virginia's Environment
The SAVE Program is open for rising high school juniors and seniors for the 2024-2025 program year. Student ambassadors help reduce litter and increase awareness about litter, recycling, and beautification in their respective communities. The program builds a network for learning and collaboration and connects students from across Virginia to each other and fellow ambassadors in other states. Applications are due June 15.            

Event for Secondary Teachers, Reading Specialists, Literacy Coaches, & Librarians
On June 20th from 10-12 pm Longwood University's Southside Virginia Writing Project invites you to a free Text Tasting Tea Party where you will have the opportunity to browse over thirty text sets that support the 2024 ELA SOLs for 6th-12th grade while networking with colleagues. Register today!

SWVA Administrators Network Improvement Community Forum
Registration is open for the Forum on June 21 from 9-3 p.m. at Radford University’s Kyle Hall. The free workshop will focus on how to lead schools where teachers come, stay, and thrive. Outstanding teachers and leaders from the area will present their work at this event. School divisions are invited to bring a team of key leaders.   

Biotech in a Box
The Fralin Life Sciences Institute at Virginia Tech is accepting applications for the Biotech in a Box loan program for the 2024-2025 school year. The loan program offers 5 different kits: DNA Biotechnology, Protein Electrophoresis, Column Chromatography, Introduction to Immunology, and Slime Mold Behavior. Four thermal cyclers are also available to borrow. The deadline for initial scheduling is July 12.

SURN Professional Learning Opportunities
Join SURN this summer for online, asynchronous professional learning held June 24-July 27. Each is organized into five modules with opportunities to apply the learning to your own context. Register or learn more from SURN:

Building Quantum Into Your Classroom
George Mason University invites high school chemistry, physics, and computer science teachers to apply to a professional development program, Building Quantum Into Your Classroom. This hybrid, five-week summer program will have teachers working in teams to develop quantum material that can be incorporated into the classroom. The program starts in-person in Fairfax on June 27, followed by virtual weekly work, and concludes in-person on July 31. Applications are due on June 9. Accepted teachers will receive 50 professional development hours and a stipend.             

15th annual Brown Teacher Institute
Join Library of Virginia and guest speakers for this two-day Institute focused on research that explores Virginia’s Indigenous history. The Library’s exhibition, Indigenous Perspectives, highlights how the tribes remain a vital part of Virginia. Teachers will explore how to use primary sources to enhance student learning and discover new digital resources. Register for an institute held in one of the four Superintendent’s Regions. Preference will be given to attendees from Regions one, four, six and eight. Teachers must attend the entire institute to receive a PD certificate and stipend.

CHOICE Online Interest Form
Virginia Ed Strategies is excited to announce the expansion of CHOICE to 600+ additional teachers statewide this summer! If you are a PreK-12 teacher providing classroom instruction in math, science, computer science, or career and technical education, then you may submit an online interest form as the first step in claiming funding for professional learning opportunities that you choose! Final call: 7/22-8/9 SEDP 630: Trends in Special Education Course Summer Enrollment
Complete the SEDP 630- Trends in Special Education at VCU for the VDOE approved prerequisite course for Special Education provisional license for as little as $700 + book costs. That's a tuition savings of $2000 just in time for the Fall school year. Apply and register as a non-degree student by July 3 to enroll in the 3-week course beginning July 22.  

Two Leadership Program Opportunities
The University of Lynchburg is offering opportunities to earn a Masters of Education in PreK-12 Administration and Supervision (MEd) and a Doctor of Education in Leadership Studies (EdD). Find out more about the MEd program which prepares students for certification as a Virginia school leader. The program includes relevant coursework, internship experiences and the state licensure exam. Find out more about the EdD interdisciplinary program that prepares candidates for a wide range of leadership roles. The rigorous coursework, practical experiences, and dissertation research blends both principles and theory of leadership with practice.
