In response to legislation passed by the Virginia General Assembly, as well as feedback and collaboration with the field, the VDOE has released a Video Guide to the Special Education Evaluation Process for Families as additional guidance to support accurate and consistent eligibility determinations and access to special education across school divisions. These video modules will provide parents, families, and other stakeholders with a brief but comprehensive overview of the special education process on the following topics:

Training Opportunities Provided by the Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center (PEATC) and VDOE
Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) Online Self-Paced Training: Open March 4 - March 25, 2024

PEATC, in collaboration with the VDOE, is offering an online, self-paced SEAC training session aimed at helping members and other interested participants understand the role of the local SEAC in Virginia and build a more effective and efficient advisory committee. A certificate of completion will be provided for all who complete the training.

Building Strong Parent Advocates Online Self-Paced Training: Open March 4 - March 25, 2024

PEATC, in collaboration with the VDOE, provides the Building Strong Parent Advocates training to provide families with information that will help them build a solid foundation to understand the special education process while empowering them to be their child's best advocate. A certificate of completion for six (6) hours will be provided for all who complete this training.
