Learning Acceleration Tutoring Grants Calling all teachers and retirees...Tutors and educational service providers are encouraged to register as vendors in the K-12 Learning Acceleration Grant program. Tutoring may be in-person, virtual or hybrid, and in one-on-one, small group or large-group settings. Teachers as tutors set their own schedules and rates and determine how many students they wish to serve. The $30 million program will provide $1,500 tutoring grants, in core content areas and world languages required to meet diploma requirements, to parents of school-age children. Children from homes with family incomes at 300% or less of the federal poverty level may qualify for $3,000 grants. Read more today!

Library of Virginia's Brown Teacher Research Fellowship Deadline Extended to May 30 The Brown Teacher Research Fellowship provides Virginia educators the opportunity to research and study a specific aspect of Virginia history. Selected participants will produce educational resources to support the Library of Virginia’s ongoing exhibition and education programs. The award includes a stipend, an allocation to cover registration fees and travel for conference presentations. Blue Skies Blended Learning Webinar Series Presented in partnership with Instructure, the Blue Skies Blended Learning series features 16 free online workshops designed specifically for K–12 instructors, leaders, and support personnel at Virginia public schools and divisions. Environmental Issues in Virginia Microcredential The VDOE Science Team is excited to offer four asynchronous virtual professional development modules on science concepts and pedagogy needed to support classroom instruction of the 2018 Science Standards of Learning: Impact of Invasive Species on Virginia Ecosystems, Energy Use in Virginia, Climate Change and Impacts in Virginia, and Virginia's Forests: Ecology and Management. Teachers may enroll and complete any or all four modules anytime between June 1 and July 31, 2023. Those who complete all four modules will receive a microcredential from the VDOE. Coming in August - Deeper Learning: Supporting Effective Science and EL Instruction The VDOE will offer sustained, virtual professional development to teachers across Virginia to support effective science instruction and will include resources to support English Learner students. Four different topics will be offered in both the fall and the spring. The topics are Developing Science Literacy, Using the 5E Model with Science Instruction, Using Formative Assessment to Inform Instruction, and Discourse in the Science Classroom. Advancing Rural Computer Science This is a two-year professional development program that allows K-5 educators (teachers, ITRTs, and librarians) to become highly skilled in integrating the Virginia Computer Science SOLs into K-5 English, mathematics, science, and history and social science. Participants will complete the Code VA K-5 Coaches Academy and earn microcredentials in CS Integration that are being offered by ODU, a stipend, receive a free Chromebook, and their choice of a classroom set of CS instructional technology.
