Application for the English Standards Revision Committee The VDOE English Program is seeking nominations from division superintendents for individuals who are qualified and available to serve on the English Standards Revision Committee to review the K-12 English Standards of Learning during the summer of 2023. Nominees should be teachers, principals, administrators, content specialists, reading specialists, or other educators who have expertise with the content area and current standards. Individuals who wish to serve on a committee to review the K-12 English Standards of Learning must submit an application through the web-based process, Instruction Committee Application Processing System (ICAPS). The application will require a professional reference and division approval. Completed applications are due to the VDOE through ICAPS by March 10. See Superintendent's Memo 026-23 for details.

VSCA School Counselor of the Year Award- Due Feb. 19 VDOE recognized professional school counselors during the week of February 6-10, 2023 as part of National School Counseling Week. School counselors help all students succeed in school, apply interpersonal skills, and plan their career. School divisions are encouraged to nominate a school counselor for the VSCA's 2023 School Counselor of the Year Award by Feb. 19.
Jamestown Yorktown Foundation 18th-Century Life and Economy This a free virtual teacher workshop will be presented by Jamestown Yorktown Foundation will be held on February 21. Participants will gain historical content about the Virginia tobacco economy and activities to use in the classroom that build critical thinking skills. Registration is required. Check it out today!
VDOE CTE Career Success Stars The Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education is seeking nominations of former CTE students who qualify for recognition as one of the Commonwealth’s brightest Career Success Stars. The individual success stories will be featured as video profiles on the VDOE website highlighting how CTE programs provide academic and technical skills for postsecondary success. The school divisions’ CTE administrators will be provided the link to the nomination form to distribute to their schools. The nominations are due to the VDOE by April 14.

Virginia Humanities K-12 Fellowship The Virginia Humanities is currently seeking six educators to join a new K-12 Fellowship scheduled to begin in April 2023. The cohort will consist of educators from across the state and will bring a wide range of humanities curriculum focus, from the elementary level to the high school level, allowing them to design new learning experiences that are easily accessible for both a physical classroom and remote use. Black History Month Resources The VDOE Office of Humanities History Program encourages instructional programming that highlights Black history that extends beyond the twenty-eight days, to create a year-round interdisciplinary approach. National and Virginia organizations have provided resources to support instruction including the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Library of Congress, Library of Virginia, and the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia among many others.
Camp Woods and Wildlife -June 19-23 The camp is hosted by the Virginia Department of Forestry with support from other natural resource professionals. Camp is held at Holiday Lake 4-H Center and is open to any Virginia resident aged 13-16 who has not attended before. Apply by April 15 or contact Ellen Powell with questions.
