International Partnerships: Application Open to All K-12 Teachers in Any Subject
Now is a great time to request an international partner school through our MOU with the Académie de Reims in France. Virginia has partnered with North Carolina to create a system of school partnerships with our colleagues in France. Please see the 20-minute Overview of School Partnerships video and/or the slides as a PDF with information about submitting an online application to be matched with a colleague and school in France.
Note: As of January 2023, there are nine schools in the Académie de Reims with teachers who would like to partner with an American colleague. They are mostly at the middle school (collège) or high school (lycée) levels, and their project interests range from language and literature to STEM, science, history, CTE, and the arts, plus sports and other extracurricular activities.

DL/I In the News
First Dual Language Cohort of City Public School Students to Graduate, Daily News-Record, 1/25/23 … Whether or not they remember it, the first day of kindergarten is a milestone everyone experiences only once. Except if that person is Braeden McGrath. McGrath, now a high school senior, doesn't remember his first day as a kindergartener, but he does remember the day he found himself in a new classroom, speaking a new language. … McGrath was one of about 40 students chosen to participate in Harrisonburg City Public Schools' first dual language program in 2010. The program began at Smithland Elementary School. Families applied for the program and a first cohort was selected. For half of the day, these 5- and 6-year-olds would work with an English-speaking teacher and a Spanish-speaking teacher for the other half.

Developing Courses in Languages for Specific Purposes
This resource guide, developed at the National Foreign Language Resource Center at the University of Hawai'i at Manoā, provides research content related to language learning for medical, business and other industries. Each chapter profiles language learning for a specific learner population working in a specific professional context in each of the three categories (medical, business, and other industries). The languages researched include not only widely-studied languages like English and Chinese, but also Polish, Korean and more. Teachers of LSP looking for specific case studies relevant to their learners' needs would benefit from the information presented here.
