Did You Know?
VDOE announced the availability of 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant funds to be awarded to community-based organizations partnering with school divisions to support after-school, before-school, and summer learning programs. These funds will provide additional instructional opportunities to combat learning loss for school-age children attending high-poverty, low-performing schools. Find out more information from VDOE!

Call for Nominations for Vacancies on BOE Advisory Committees
The Virginia Board of Education is seeking nominees for several vacancies on the following committees: State Special Education Advisory Committee (SSEAC), Advisory Board on Teacher Education and Licensure (ABTEL), and  Early Childhood Advisory Committee (ECAC). For some of the vacancies, specific categories of expertise or geographic representation is required by state or federal law or regulation. For all committees, the Board seeks to have diverse representation among the appointees. All nominations must be received by December 2.

Bay-Watershed Education and Training
B-WET grants are now accepting proposals that will support school districts efforts to deliver meaningful watershed educational experiences (MWEEs) to students and help school districts increase their capacity to facilitate environmental education. Register for one of the informational webinars held on November 21 and November 30. Applications are due February 10.

Canvas's Training Services Portal Weekly Sessions
Educators can participate in training sessions each week via Canvas's Training Services Portal. First make sure you are logged into your Canvas account. The upcoming hour-long sessions are appropriate for Division and School Leaders, Statewide LMS Admin, Instructors, and Support.

11/22 at 12:00 p.m.: Integrating Canvas and Google       

National Park Trust Kids to Parks Day School Grants Program
This program is designed to be student-driven, and student-teacher collaboration is necessary. All applications must include a stewardship element and a park-themed educational component that focuses on either outdoor recreation and healthy lifestyles, environmental education/science, or history. The deadline to apply is February 17.

Advancing Rural Computer Science
ARCS is a two-year professional development program that allows K-5 educators (teachers, ITRTs and librarians) to become highly skilled in integrating the Virginia Computer Science SOLs into K-5 English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Participants will complete the Code VA K-5 Coaches Academy and earn micro-credentials in CS Integration that are being offered by ODU, a stipend, receive a free Chromebook, and their choice of a classroom set of CS instructional technology.

Power of Coaching Conference
VSTE are teaming up to bring Virginia educators a coaching conference to unpack the power of coaching! In this conference, participants will gain knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to effectively serve in the role of instructional coach. As more and more schools bring coaches as part of their staff, this is a much-needed conference for building capacity and for developing strong networks of coaches, instructional leaders, and coach supervisors across the Commonwealth. Register for the February 7 conference in Charlottesville.

Virginia Personal Finance Teacher Fellowship Program
This program seeks to support school divisions with high concentrations of provisionally licensed teachers, in which 40% or more of the student population receive free or reduced lunch by increasing access to personal finance education. The aim is to help improve education opportunities and economic equity in Virginia’s underserved communities by improving the financial knowledge and skills of middle and high school students. Applications due by November 21. 

XchangeNet Webinar:  Inspiring Tomorrow's Energy Workforce VDOE, Virginia Ed Strategies and VEWC are hosting XchangeNet, a virtual panel for business and education leaders, on November 30 at 3:30p.m.  This panel will highlight the energy career cluster and focus on the topic: "Inspiring Tomorrow's Energy Workforce".   Don't miss this impactful event to learn about the different energy sectors and gain strategies on how educators and business leaders can partner to promote students' success in this career cluster.

Reading Scholarship and Upcoming Information Sessions
The New Reading Specialist VCU School of Education Scholarship is open to all Virginia licensed teachers who have been accepted into either the Post-Masters Certificate for Reading Specialists or the M.Ed. in Reading, Reading Specialist concentration for spring, summer or fall 2023. Apply for one of five, $1,000 competitive, new incoming student scholarships.
