There is still time to register for the VDOE English Learning Labs! 
For participants interested in workshopping and applying ideas presented at the virtual institutes, three in-person K-12 English SOL Learning Labs will be offered around the state. These full-day sessions will allow for teachers to connect within grade-band groups to workshop ideas presented at the institutes, examine student work samples, dialogue with educators, and plan next steps for instruction based on the virtual session topics. Register for one of the following: November 7: Fredericksburg; November 9: Newport News; November 17: Roanoke.

Student Essay Contest
The Association for Women in Mathematics and Math for America have co-sponsor a contest for biographies of contemporary women mathematicians and statisticians in academic, industrial, and government careers. The essays will be based primarily on an interview with a woman currently working in or retired from a mathematical sciences career. Participation is open to all middle school, high school, and undergraduate students.

2022 Outstanding Technology Teacher, Coach and Leader of the Year 
Nominations Open! Virginia CEC Mentorship Program recognizes the many challenges for all educators as we navigate unprecedented times in public education. This year, they are starting a mentorship program in order to help those who are new to the profession navigate the unique dynamic of special education. If you are a new special education teacher (0-5 years of experience) and are interested in having a special education mentor, complete the mentee interest form.  If you are an experienced special education teacher (5+ years of experience) and are interested in serving as a special education mentor through Virginia CEC, please fill out the mentor request form.

VDOE Learning Needs Dashboard
The Learning Needs Dashboard  provides detailed reports on the performance of students, schools and school divisions on state assessments from 2017 through 2022. This public-facing data-visualization tool will help teachers, administrators, parents and communities compare performance and better understand students’ learning needs.

Canvas's Training Services Portal Weekly Sessions
Educators can participate in training sessions each week via Canvas's Training Services Portal. First make sure you are logged into your Canvas account. The upcoming hour-long sessions are appropriate for Division and School Leaders, Statewide LMS Admin, Instructors, and Support.

Resources for Teachers at VA Wildlife Center
The Wildlife Center of Virginia has resources for teachers to help incorporate lessons of wildlife veterinary medicine and environmental conservation into science, biology, and environmental science lesson plans.           

2022 Donna Sterling Institute
This Institute, Finding Smart Solutions in Energy and Climate Science, will be held in-person November 10, in Williamsburg. Participants will use a PBL approach to learn about climate and energy and engage in National Energy Education Development activities. Registration payment includes one night of lodging and recertification points.

LiftOff 2023: Planetary Defender
Virginia Space Grant Consortium will sponsor one teacher from Virginia for a Summer Professional held in Houston, Texas, June 25-30. This aerospace workshop emphasizes STEM learning experiences by incorporating a space science theme supported by NASA missions. Participants are provided with experiences through speakers, hands-on activities, and field investigations. If interested, email your resume by December 12 to Joyce Corriere.

Inclusive Schools Webinar Series 
This series will support the K-12 Inclusive Practices Guide, and provide information on topics from effective inclusion and scheduling to behavior basics and specially designed instruction. Both Special Educators and General Educators are welcome and encouraged to attend one or all of the webinars.   

John Marshall Center 2022 Teacher of the Year Award
Each year, the John Marshall Center presents two awards to middle or high school educators who excel in and innovate the teaching of the U.S. Constitution. Any public or private middle or high school classroom teacher in Virginia who has been teaching for a minimum of five years is eligible for the award. Winners each receive $2,500 and are honored at the Richmond Bar Association Luncheon in November 2022. Complete a nomination form today!

2022 VASCD Annual Conference
The Conference brings together educators from across the Commonwealth to learn, teach, lead, and connect! This year’s conference will be held at The Williamsburg Lodge. The pre-conference will be on November 29 and the annual conference will be held November 30–December 1. For more information about registration and costs see VASCD. 

VIRGINIA COLLEGE & UNIVERSITY PROGRAMS

Hybrid Educational Leadership Opportunities
Longwood University has two opportunities for hybrid learning: 
1.  If you have a master’s degree and have considered a leadership position in the PreK-12 schools or central office, completion of these hybrid courses and a passing score on the SLLA meet VDOE eligibility requirements for the Administration and Supervision PreK-12 endorsement. Complete the 21 credits either through the one-year model or two-year track as part of the regional cohorts. Email leadership@longwood.edu with questions.     
2.  The Master of Science in Education with an Educational Leadership Concentration is a five-semester hybrid model blending real-world applicability with real-time flexibility. The program meets five Saturdays per semester on-campus; the remainder of learning occurs online asynchronously.
