Sizzlin' Summer Series from Virtual Virginia
Virtual Virginia invites educators throughout the state to the Sizzlin’ Summer Series of webinars, where they can learn best practices in utilizing the VVA Statewide learning management system and other educational technology for in-person learning. VDOE Fine Arts Update
VDOE Fine Arts staff will share up-to-date information and resources for the 2022-2023 school year on August 3 from 4:15 - 5:00 p.m. This session is intended for division-level leaders of fine arts curriculum, instruction, and professional learning and is open to all fine arts educators who wish to attend. The session will be recorded.

EL Monthly Conversation: Communicating with Multilingual Families  Join educators from across the state in a dialogue about best practices for communicating with multilingual families on August 9 from 4-5 p.m. Register today for this virtual workshop!                                                                      

Aspiring Leaders Cohort Opportunity
Virginia State University second cohort for the Support Center for Aspiring Leaders of Equity (SCALE) is a two-year virtual program that includes seminars, observations, assignments, and field experiences. Core areas of support are for teacher leaders, school leaders, and central office leaders. The Cohort begins on August 16 with applications due by August 5. Grant for Tuition Scholarships for Licensed High School Teachers to be Considered Faculty to Teach Dual Enrollment
School divisions may apply to VDOE for a grant for dual enrollment tuition scholarship awards. Individuals who are currently enrolled in relevant content/discipline area courses for the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters who are eligible for dual enrollment tuition scholarships are eligible for consideration. Please submit grant requests for the Fall 2022 semester no later than September 9. See Superintendent's Memo 150-22 for all the details. 

AP Human Geography Academy 2022
This Academy titled, Spacemaking and Placemaking in the 21st Century: A Field Study of Geographic Intersectionality, will be held October 7-9. Get out in the field to explore the intersection of history, culture, and geography on the landscape of our state capital! Perfect for teachers of AP Human Geography, AP US History, VA/US History, and African American History. Register by Sept. 26.

2022 Microsoft Office Specialist U.S. National Championship Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow today congratulated two Virginia winners in the 2022 Microsoft Office Specialist U.S. National Championship competition in Dallas. Congratulations to Wendy Zheng, a student at Princess Anne High School, who won first place in the Microsoft Excel category. Zeng now has the opportunity to participate in the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship.  Congratulations to Justin Henley, a student at New Kent High School, who placed second in the Microsoft Word category.  These two students were among 85 state finalists from across the country who participated in the competition. Join Radford University School of Teacher Education and Leadership for a virtual information session on August 4 at 4 p.m. Graduate Program Coordinators will be in breakout rooms to discuss the following 100 percent online programs: M.S. in Ed-Curriculum and Instruction; M.S. in Education-Mathematics Education; M.S. in Ed Leadership; M.S. in Literacy Ed; M.S. in Special Ed, Ed.D. in Ed. Reduced tuition rate for Virginia Educators pursuing master’s level work is available and some programs have grant funding opportunities.
